If You’re Ever in Houston
Check out Annunciation Church

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending Mass at Annunciation Church in downtown Houston.

It is a beautiful church in the classical style that has been untouched by the “wreckovators.” The church, as well as the altar, is literally ad orientem, so when the morning sun comes through the large stained glass window of the Annunciation over the high altar, it is truly brilliant.

Annunciation is founded in 1869 and is the oldest continuous church in Houston. Msgr. James Golasinski is the pastor and offers two Masses in the Extraordinary Form (the TLM) every Sunday and some plain ol’ Ordinary Form Masses, as well. But, guess what, they’re in Latin, too!

If you get to Houston and need directions, just ask how to get to the Astros’ Minute Maid Park. Annunciation is right across the street.

I live in the nearby Diocese of Beaumont and this is the closest Latin mass to where I live. It's truly a beautiful church! Also, I don't know if they even have a freestanding altar. I went once for the 8am EF mass and there wasn't a table in sight!

Thomas,
Yeah, the have one (the only kind any church should have, IMO), they roll it out on wheels to set up for the OF in front of the high altar. I happened to see it after the 8 am Mass when I was there.

I take the EF in Lake Charles at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. It's a pretty good deal. They don't use the high altar though. Except for the hour long drive and having to go through Orange. For the next two months or so they will offer all Low Masses to let the schola rest. And apparently Bishop Provost will say Mass in the EF in October.
