The Pope, The Bishop, The Forgotten Five Million, And Enough Rope
You know what they say about giving someone enough rope

OK... time for everyone to take a deep breath. Especially the folks over at the Jerusalem Post. Now what I'm about to type will undoubtedly piss some people off in a big way. But I ask that you read this posting to the end.

With that said, let me point out that Bishop Williamson is NOT a "holocaust denier" in the true sense of the phrase. What he questions is if the number of Jews murdered by the Nazis was actually six million, and if "The Final Solution" was really a matter of national policy. Even the article by the Jerusalem Post states that Bp. Williamson believes that 200,000 - 300,000 died.

A quarter million dead... six million dead... mass murder is mass murder, period. Do I believe that Bp. Williamson is WAY off on his historical accuracy? Of course I do. I've personally talked to too many Army vets from WWII who've seen the ovens, seen the mounds of corpses, seen the mass graves, to doubt that something unbelievably massive and diabolical had occurred.

I also remember my childhood parish of St. Leonard's in Fremont, California, and good ol' Father Kopania. Every once in a while, we'd get but a glimpse of the serial number tattooed on his forearm. He was suppose to have been exterminated in Auschwitz for the high crime of being a Catholic priest. And he wasn't the only one. Far from it...

There is no master roll call of names of those murdered, so an approximate number is the best that any historian can produce. But the evidence is overwhelming that millions and millions and millions were slaughtered by the Nazis. And while I'm at it, why is it we never hear about the 2.5 - 5 million Catholics killed in the death camps?

But I digress. I recently read an article penned by a Protestant Minister who stated that "Pope Benedict has a habit of taking small steps that have far reaching effects". How true. This pope's no dummy.

Don't look for Bishop Williamson being kept on a short leash. On the contrary, he's going to be given lots and lots of rope.

The bishop is a moonbat but I agree with you. He never denied the Holocaust - he just questioned the numbers. You're seeing msm spin and it is spinning waaaaaaaaay out of control.

Anyhoo....

You all have an award waiting for you at my place. ;-)

The Holocaust is a hot button issue, even the followers of the pedophile prophet have it blow back in their faces when they denigrate it (and we all know what media darlings the muslims are).

So while the bishop is definetly a loon the reaction of too many will be way over the top.

For the record, I'm NOT a denier that it happened. I believe it was an unbelievable display of man's inhumanity to man and it should be taught and emphasized unceasingly.

But stepping back once in a while and taking a deep breath doesn't hurt either.

I wrote about this too. And, i see nothing in your post to piss me off.

Like you, i expect Bp. Wiiliamson to be given a lot or rope, and I expect that he will hang himself with it, forth with.

I have long thought that some sort of reconciliation with the SSPX was inevitable: they don't really like being in an irregular position. But I think Bp Williamson is a loose cannon, and possibly a bit nuts, and I expect that he will bail on His Holiness and enter into outright schism.

Eventually, those "idependant catholic" folks will talk about the "Williamson succession" in their garage cum cathederal meetings.

Sad, but that's what I expect.

There's got to be a small office somewhere far away from cameras and seminarians where they can stick Williamson.

As a side note, Bp. Williamson and other three SSPX bishops (Fellay, de Mallerais and de Galarreta) had their 1988 excommunications lifted by the Pope (http://212.77.1.245/news_services/bulletin/news/23251.php?index=23251&lang=it).

Really Theophilus? We never would've guessed without the previous posts.

Why is there so much concern about this bishops comments questioning some aspects of the holocaust? We have current Bishops who supported Obama to be president when it is well known that there are more lives lost in abortion than Hitler ever dreamed about killing.

I, too remember Father Kopania whenever these deniers raise their ignorant heads. He was scheduled to be gassed the day the camp was liberated. Also, missing his index finger from that period.
