PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix's Catholic bishop has excommunicated a priest who started a nondenominational ministry after the priest was charged with misdemeanor sexual misconduct.
The action announced Monday against Monsignor Dale Fushek, once the diocese's second highest-ranking administrator, was a response to his creation of the Praise and Worship Center in Chandler.
In excommunicating Fushek and another Catholic priest who helped open the ministry, the diocese makes no mention of the criminal charges against Fushek. Fushek and the other priest are now prohibited from receiving the church's sacraments.
In his criminal case, Fushek is accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, indecent exposure and assault stemming from hearing confessions and counseling boys between 1984 and 1993. Who was it again that said something about millstones being tied around the necks and subsequently casting into the sea those who would harm the little ones? Well, in this case, Lake Havasu will do nicely.

I can't justify Msgr. Fushek's disobedience to his Bishop, but I would ask your readers to keep in mind two things.
First of all, the Mass I attend most frequently is based on the Lifeteen model, and in all ways that I know it is in full compliance with the GIRM. The pictures on the last post are simply not an accurate presentation of the Lifeteen movement.
Secondly, we live in a country where everyone has a right to due process. Charges made against someone are not indicative of criminal activity. They mean that someone has accused someone else of a crime.
If you want to want to know the fruits of Lifeteen, I can give you witness after witness of how it has been an instrument of God in the salvation of souls and preach the Gospel of Christ.
I appreciate the way this blog finds and comments on much of the news... but your readers would be served better if it were a little more discerning in approach.

Thank you for your comments. I'd like to point out to you that it's exactly bacause of his entertainment-based experiment with the liturgy that fed his penchant for buggery, that led to his hootenanny neo-prot "Independant church".
And let's be honest, the GIRM for the Novus Ordo Mass is so wide open with the possibility to create scandal and error, you could drive a Mac truck through it. Case in point: that LifeTeen abomination. To say that one is "in full keeping with the Novus Ordo" doesn't really create a lot of confidence.
But I will admit that you're correct about due process concerning the charges against Presider Fusheck. But I'd be willing to lay a large monetary amount that he'll be found out not only to be a faggot... but a faggot rapist. And not only is he a faggot rapist... but a faggot kiddie rapist. But that's just my prediction for court.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't be Catholic today if it weren't for the LifeTeen program. Granted, the program at the parish I started visiting (and was eventually confirmed in) had a couple of very vigilant, diligent priests over the years who kept it in line (liturgically speaking), and the Core Team leaders were and are very holy people. I know not everyone has had the same experiences that I have... in fact, a seminarian friend came with me one time and almost fell over (hard to do when you're on your knees during Consecration) when he heard altar bells... at a LIFE TEEN MASS... but I know that my parish was one in a million.
LifeTeen is a bit like V2... maybe it had good intentions in the beginning but ended up distorted and distracting in practice. And then there's the whole kiddie-rapist issue which I'm not even going to get near... But just like there can be very reverent, liturgically uplifting NO masses, a GOOD LifeTeen program is hard to come by... but not impossible.

Heresy is as heresy does. This kind of madness like Lifeteen is merely the symptom. I'll agree with you on due process but these "liturgitainment I love me heresy fests" are a product of the worst generation, and that's why it looks like a dated freak show from the 60's which attracts sodomites, adulterers and abusers of themselves with mankind like seals attract sharks. He who marries himself to the spirit of the times will soon find himself a widow.
If Dr. Who were to pluck any random 100 Catholics from each century of the Church of Rome's existence and show them the typical Novus Ordo church, er I mean "Community" they not only wouldn't recognize it, they'd demand the bishop to anathematize everyone involved! St. Pius X even said that such folks like these Lifeteen heretics (which ironically is dominated by baby-boomers) should be beaten with fists!
Everytime I see such stuff, it's reinforces my appreciation of the Orthodox Church and my part in it. The Lair of the Catholic Cavemen serves the purpose that there are Catholics who do have a clue what authentic Christianity is, which is why I aggressively support it.
These buggerers should've been excommunicated LONG ago and to them I say ANATHEMA!

I think your case isn't even the exception to the rule. It sounds to me more like an anomoly.
Anyhow, for me it's real simple... when I wanna rock, I put on Jeff Beck's Wired album, not ABBA's Greatest Hits. When I want to worship God Almighty, I attend the TLM, not something that appeals the baser instincts.

Lifeteen serves to garner a "feeling". As I read most of Ben's instructive writings they appear to me to be drawn out of how the comments in this post make him "feel". Of course he whips out the "don't judge" club to bash us on the head.
Many people are caught up in movements due to "feelings", when their good "feeling" goes away they believe they have lost their faith. Hell, people do drugs to get good "feelings". If all you do is give a good feeling and call that faith then good feeling = faith. Thats when a person can be easily manipulated by evil to believe anything that gives a good "feeling" must be divine.
What the TLM does is intensely focus the body and soul on the fact that sacrifice is a major part of faith. If you are living according to the will of God you will suffer, you will have to sacrifice. The fact is sometimes living your faith means you don't have a good "feeling". There is no way to get that message at a Novus Ordo (ME MASS) much less a Lifeteen program. Unless you attend the one that Cookie went to. Like Cavey said an anomily in the first order.
If you have ever stood before someone and forced yourself to tell the truth eventhough it meant you were going to bear an mountain of trouble you know that living your faith absolutely sucks sometimes. On the other hand if you lie at that moment you "feel" good at the moment but when the lie gets found out that "feeling" goes away pretty damned quick.

VSO, I gotta say that I've always enjoyed your blog and comments. Including a Dr Who reference is just icing on the cake.
I'm going to trust God to take His revenge against Msgr. Fushek. He will get off exactly as lightly as our Lord wants him to, and no less.
But I will still pray for the salvation of Msgr. Fushek's soul, and the sooner, the better. For one thing, Jesus loves him too, and wants him saved. For another, the longer he's in a state of grace, the less time he spends committing crimes and giving scandal.
Here's the thing about Life Teen that worries me. Dale Fushek founded it and we now know that he aint right in the head. Birds of a feather flock together. Can you trust the current crop of leaders?
Life teen is pure modernist rot gut. And I mean "modernist" in the true sense of the word and as understood and defined by PP X in Pascendi. It is borderline heretical.
Trust me folks, I am in my twenties and I grew up with this sort of nonsense. You want to know what you got at the average life teen inspired diocesan retreats during the '90's, you got a bunch of spoiled, self centered, hormone driven kids looking for an opportunity to spend a weekend with the opposite sex without their parents. That is it. All such events were focused on the teenagers own emotional hang ups and the events centered on these puff ball mushy modern psycho-babble horse manure.
The Masses were always a circus and they were always distasteful. Even when the Bishop would preside at one it seems we were always treated to such liturgical gems as dancers.
Anyway, any Catholic who has their head on straight and who came of age in the midst of all this crap will confirm for you what Life Teen is, it is nothing more than the Catholic Church attempting to make itself relevant to youngsters by acting like protestants.
If it is possible for anyone associated with Lifeteen to be doing a good job and truly converting hearts and minds, praise be to God. But personally, I'm not buying any fruit from that poisonous tree.
My brother and family are former Fushek parishioners, and I had the misfortune of attending my niece's baptismal Mass with when I still lived in AZ. Holy hottub, Batman.

Ben, the preponderance standard has already been met. Whatever AZ's criminal justice system has in store for him (I vote for the pen in Florence, myself), the fact that his eternal punishment has already been previewed by his excommunication is what should really concern him, his temporal punishment pales by comparison.
