This Is What It Looks Like When A Priest Tells His Bishop To Go To Hell
Right here in the lil' ol' Diocese of Raleigh
It's not every day that a bishop gets told to go to hell, but it happens with almost regularity here in the Cape Fear Deanery of the Diocese of Raleigh.
Here's is some of the letter that both Bishops Burbidge (Raleigh) and Jugis (Charlotte) have sent out; (Emphasis mine)While all these issues are important, the intentional destruction of innocent human life is an intrinsic evil that can never be supported, and the protection of human life from conception to natural death is preeminent among out moral values. In the hierarchy of truths, this truth is never morally equivalent to all the other issues embraced under a consistent ethic of life. Pretty straightforward stuff, huh? "Hierarchy of truths"... powerful. Oh, and the bishops also refer to the "teaching of The Church", as well as referring to themselves as "teachers of the faith".
And from what I understand (and I may be wrong), the letter has suppose to be inserted in all parish bulletins, and all pastors were instructed to speak of such from the pulpit. I know my pastor did.
But then we have this gem from St. Mary's in Wilmington, NC. And this ain't the first time; (Emphasis mine)This Tuesday is election day. When Catholic Christians vote, they are asked to follow their consciences. Our conscience is our ultimate guide in choosing our behavior. Hmmm... "Our conscience is our ultimate guide"? Is it just me, or did Father "Bob" just tell his bishop to go to hell? Sure looks that way to me.
And from what I understand (and I may be wrong), the letter from the bishops was never inserted into the bulletin from St. Mary's, nor did the pastor ever speak of it during any of his Masses. But some folks who I know who attend at St. Mary's have passed this info on to me. And I have no reason to believe that there's any embellishment to what they tell me.
Anyhow, I just wonder when Bishop Burbidge is finally going to do something about this guy. Father "Bob" is simply spinning out of control.

excommunication time.
Not trying to exonerate Fr "Bob", but even that great Catholic Vote 2008 video says the same thing at the end.
Two things: (a) a properly catechized conscience infused by the Holy Spirit is a powerful thing in a person. But that wasn't said by Fr B, presumably. (b) Consciences not so trained and infused can be sincere, and sincerely wrong.
We don't live in a Catholic nation. Obviously. We're in for a lot of soft coercion under Big O; white martyrdom. We'd better get ready for it.
"Conscience is our ultimate guide". Jumpin' Jimmeny! When did we start ordaining crickets?
I think that someone needs to, "give a little whistle" to the Bishop about this nonsense. I hear he gave an interesting talk about Hell and Purgatory this weekend stating, "The Church has never stated that there is a soul in Purgatory or Hell". I guess he does not want all of his little Obamanations feeling guilty after Tuesday.
We conform ourselves to Christ--He does not conform Himself to our consciences!
