I Was Introduced To This Last Week...
Thought you might find it rather hard hitting, as well Litany of Humility
Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val (1865-1930),
Secretary of State for Pope Saint Pius X

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of being loved...
From the desire of being extolled ...
From the desire of being honored ...
From the desire of being praised ...
From the desire of being preferred to others...
From the desire of being consulted ...
From the desire of being approved ...
From the fear of being humiliated ...
From the fear of being despised...
From the fear of suffering rebukes ...
From the fear of being calumniated ...
From the fear of being forgotten ...
From the fear of being ridiculed ...
From the fear of being wronged ...
From the fear of being suspected ...

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I ...
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease ...
That others may be chosen and I set aside ...
That others may be praised and I unnoticed ...
That others may be preferred to me in everything...
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…

I love that litany!! I used to have a book filled with litanies ~ they are one of my favorite devotions. I hope you don't mind if I take this litany over to my blog like I did with OL Guadalupe!! GOD BLESS!!! I hope your brother is continuing to recover ~ I've been behind the news because we were down in mainland Scotland for five days so we could buy a jew ram for our flock. (Jew ram?!?!?! Er... I meant to type NEW ram hahahaha!!) We were able to spend the night at Pluscarden Abbey where I am a Novice Oblate. Those monks are so wonderful!! Oddly enough for this lazy slug, my favourite prayers of the day begin at 4:45am and I always try and attend them!! What a way to start the day, huh?? I wonder if I could incorporate the 8 hours of the Divine Office into my lay married life... Oh more news: I'm 4.5 months along in my pregnancy and all is going very well!! I keep telling everyone that I hope we fill at *least* one pew at Mass hehehehehe! Please pray for me that I have a non-traumatic delivery because I don't want to get scared off of having more babies.
GOD BLESS!

I love this litany--I found it in my missal, and think it's one of the better things for this arrogant pew sitter.

Thanks for publishing it, and letting more people find it.

just goes to show--you're the better blogger!

This inspired me to make an mp3 of me praying it. How to give it to those who want it is another story. I have no idea how to do that....(if you want to see this as a kind of private message that is ok too)

This is in my 1962 Missal, which is a fabulous source of other amazing prayers as well. Humility on one of those things we tossed out in the 70's, I believe, and that has been an endless source of sin ever since. God bless you for posting this for all to see.

I have been praying this for years. I pray this at the end of the Divine Office and I pray it after I receive Holy Communion. It sums up humility very nicely!
