I can't make this stuff up. Here's some of the story from WIBW.com
Airport to Passengers: Fly SUX
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) -- City leaders have scrapped plans to do away with the Sioux Gateway Airport's unflattering three-letter identifier, SUX, and instead have made it the centerpiece of the airport's new marketing campaign.
The code, used by pilots and airports worldwide and printed on tickets and luggage tags, will be used on T-shirts and caps sporting the airport's new slogan, "FLY SUX." It also forms the address of the airport's redesigned Web site - http://www.flysux.com
Sioux City officials petitioned the Federal Aviation Administration to change the code in 1988 and 2002. At one point, the FAA offered the city five alternatives - GWU, GYO, GYT, SGV and GAY - but airport trustees turned them down.
From what I hear, San Francisco has already decided to drop SFO... but now they want to simultaneously use both SUX and GAY.

I saw that this morning in the paper... I think it's not a terrible idea - brand recognition is everything, and the meaning of the word has diminished.
Maybe not the most Catholic advertising campaign ever, but I think the term "Catholic advertising" is a bit of an oxymoron anyway...
Hmmm...Gay Sux. Yup, it does.
The SUX logo for Sioux City's airport has been a joke for years here in Iowa. Yet when presented with a couple of decent alternatives, SGV or GWU they turn them down & embrace SUX. Perche? (Why?) Non capisco! (I don't understand!)
If I didn't know better, I would say the Dems have taken over. But that area is more solidly Republican than DBQ is (sadly) Democratic.
Anyhow, I wouldn't be surprized if San Fran does petition the FCC to change to GAY SUX. If they do, make sure you get your royalty from them for coming up with the idea.
