And What Exactly Is The Good Cardinal Speaking Of?
Giacomo Cardinal Biffi, that is
Pope Benedict XVI selected retired Bologna archbishop Cardinal Giacomo Biffi to preach the annual Lenten retreat to the Pope and the top members of the Vatican. And Cardinal Biffi opened up a big ol' can of theological whoop-ass (as we say here in The South).
The good cardinal warned of a certain entity that is a "pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist". Gee.... what could it be that Cardinal Biffi is talking about?
Read carefully some of the things that he warned of. I dunno about you, but it sounded a lot like the agenda of the USCCB to me. Hell, just go to the USCCB website one day and see for yourself what they consider important. I can tell you right now what they preach boils down to three things; pacifism, ecology and ecumenism.
Or quite possibly, Cardinal Biffi could also be speaking of the German and/or French bishops conference. They're arm in arm with their American counterparts. Or when you get right down to it... possibly he's speaking of that ungodly beast that's been tagged "The Spirit" of Vatican II.
But anyhow, here's some of what Cardinal Biffi preached on;
The 78-year-old cardinal added that if Christians "limited themselves to speaking of shared values they would be more accepted on television programs and in social groups. But in this way, they will have renounced Jesus, the overwhelming reality of the resurrection."
He said he believes that this is "the danger that Christians face in our days … the Son of God cannot be reduced to a series of good projects sanctioned by the prevailing worldly mentality."
Speaking of this certain entity, the cardinal said "he will convoke an ecumenical council and will seek the consensus of all the Christian confessions, granting something to each one. The masses will follow him, with the exception of small groups of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants."
OK... so what exactly WAS it that Cardinal Biffi was warning His Holiness, top Vatican officials, Catholics everywhere about?
Give up? He was talking about the Anti-Christ. Ya gotta admit... it sure does sound an awful lot like the USCCB, doesn't it?

A composite of John Paul II and John XXIII came to mind.
I don't even know what to say to that last comment. Whatever happened to "the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it?"
4HisChurch,
You're right. The gates of hell SHALL NOT prevail.
But please keep in mind that The Holy Bible states that there will be a "remnant church" due to most falling into apostacy.
We're seeing that already.
And I thought it sounded a lot like the Canadian Conference of Confused Bishops. You know, that ones who rejected Humanae Vitae, so they could endorse (and turn a blind eye) to abortion and homosexuality. Wanna trade bishops? Nah, yours are as bad as ours.
I think there's a real pacifist troll over at Rorate Caeli, latest post,on BIffi; goes by the name of Paul Bunyon (give away?). Thought you might like to take care of him.
I don't know where to begin as my brain has exploded.
Vir, I do think that we are seeing apostasy now. I guess I just can't stomach that the pope would be part of it...
SP,
Thanks for the heads-up! I'll swing over and take a peek. If you don't hear from me again, it's because my head exploded as well.
4HisChurch,
All I know is what I see around me. And I'm not seeing vague, shadowy actions that a conspiracy theory nut-job lives for. I'm seeing out and out heresy being preached by men wearing Roman Collars.
Please don't get me wrong, I never said that His Holiness was part of any conspiracy... but I have and will continue to ask; when will he finally start cracking some heads?
Souls are being led to hell, and to a rather large degree, the Holy Father is silent.
Oh, I agree. There is definitely heresy being preached by men in Roman collars. I guess I bristled at the implication that either Pope John or Pope John Paul was the anti-Christ. I spent too much time trying to "fellowship" with anti-Catholic Christians in college to let that go by without questioning.
But, I do agree with you that something needs to be done and so many of us are getting impatient to see it happen.
I wouldn't completely write off Pope John Paul, though. I think there are many young people who are coming up in the Church whose faith was greatly nurtured by his example. There are many orthodox young priests and seminarians who credit their vocation to his example.
4HisChurch,
Well, I can't find any references, but I do remember reading years ago that Pope Pius XII read the 3d Secret of Fatima.
He was so visibly shaken with fright that he actually vomited.
Then we have Pope Pual VI warning us that "the smoke of satan has entered the sactuary of The Church".
And th4e only post-Vatican II, Church authenticated Vision of the BVM at Akita, Japan warning us that satan will attempt to destroy The Church from within.
Scary stuff, indeed.
Hmmm...I can't help but wonder how true the story of Pope Pius XII is...is there any reliable source for that?
I do think that there certainly are factions that are trying to destroy the Church from within, though.
As I said before, I can't stomach Pope John Paul being a part of that--at least not consciously.
