And Speaking of Gerald Ford...
Any one else notice?

Today President Ford was laid to rest (may God have mercy on his soul). Even though he was pro-abortion, I won't speak ill of the dead.

But did anyone else notice that his Episcopalian service looked an AWWWWWWWFUL lot like a Novus Ordo Mass? Complete with On Eagles Wings and all that good stuff.

For us Catholics, between the priests, nuns, and DRE's in stretch pants who openly question The Real Presence, Sacramental Confession, Apostolic Succession, Hell, the Sacramental Priesthood, satan, moral absolutes, etc, etc, you can forget about the dire warnings of "you can't indefinitely imitate something without eventually becoming it".

In many, many, many Catholic diocese, we're already there.

I had the same thoughts. Another question: why is it that the priest (or whatever they call the guys wearing robes) has to lead the eulogizers up to the pulpit and back down every time? This was annoying. And were those magic wands in their hands or what?

They must have toned down the High liturgy for his funeral, because everytime I've been to the Cathedral they've blown the NO wayyyy outta the water.

If they would only use their beautiful high altar....

Pax et bonum.

The fact that the average Catholic today would be comfortable in an Anglican service, and vice versa, speaks volumes of our post-Vatican II Church and the Mass that they have destroyed.

With a new pastor and since Bishop Burbridge’s appointment, our parish’s quietly dropped the words “a post-Vatican II parish…” from our mission statement. I’m hopeful.

Several years ago, in the interest of concision, during a group meeting to review the documents of Vatican II, I had asked the prior pastor to explain why he inserted that phrase into our mission statement since there is no such thing as a Catholic “pre-Vatican II” parish.

Since I’m Irish, my DNA does not allow me to argue aggressively with a priest or a cop. So when the pastor agreed that the “post Vatican II” reference was a phrase not of distinction, but merely of emphasis, my point was made and I let it go. But he got the point – wording like that, post and pre Vatican II parishes in parish mission statements, only adds to the divisiveness in our Church.

Heaven forbid we should ever feel comfortable around our separated brothers and sisters in Christ.

That might lead us toward unity or something. Ick.

The "magic wands" are used by certain ministers in the Anglican communion. Odds are, what you saw were deans. They're kind of like glorified ushers. You won't find them in a Roman church.

The "wands," if full length, belong to the office of Verger, whose job, in the early days of the Anglican Church, was to clear the riff-raff out of the way of the procession.

Noticing that the NO mass looks like an Anglican/Episcopalian service, is correct for the wrong reason; it's the other way around. The 1976 revision of the Book of Common Prayer, which is what the service you saw came from, was done with the assistance of the Catholic Church in a move which was part of the effort towards re-unification with Rome. Unfortunately, another movement within the Anglican communion followed this with ordaining women, to make sure that the unification was derailed. Quite successfully.

Good points you raised, Mark. I checked with my former-Episcopalian wife who verified such.

But I gotta tell you, bro... I'll stick with my assertation that the New Mass is, at a minimum, Protestant inspired.

Please keep the good posts coming!

Yes, the old "Anglican Missal", used in my last Episcopalian parish, was (except for the language) almost indistinguishable from the Missale Romanum. Their new rite borrowed heavily from the NO.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few Anglican services in which I feel more at home in than the NO.

That, my brother in Christ, I will not dispute. One only has to read of Cranmer's hatred of the mass, and what he did to it, to see that the same has been done to ours.

Lord have mercy upon us.

It most certainly IS Prot-inspired--as a few Prots were around, "advising" Bugger Bugnini & Co. during the writing thereof.

Sorry to hear the Episcopalians are falling for that birdshit music, though. Always thought they had better upbringing.
