Why Democrats Are The Secular Version Of Protestants
And *Republicans are secular version of Catholics (or should be, anyway)
This is really quite simple.... True Catholicism adheres to Faith and Works. True Republicans adhere to Rugged Individualism. Both beliefs can be summed up in the following; Stick by what you believe. Now get off your butt and actually do it.
True Protestantism adheres to Sola Fide (Faith Alone). True Democrats adhere to Big Government. Both beliefs can be summed up in the following; Something greater than yourself will take care of everything in your life. You don't have to actually do anything.
By the way, have you ever noticed that those within the Church who are so dead-set against the Traditional Latin Mass are the same ones who consistently support ultra-liberal Democrat politicians?
*and when I say Republicans, I mean like Ronald Reagan. Not RINO's (Republican In Name Only) like McCain, Romney, and Giuliani.

Rugged individualism: “Stick by what you believe. Now get off your butt and actually do it.”
Depends on what you mean by “rugged.” The autonomous individual who recognizes no authority but his own has brought us gay rights, gay marriage and abortion (and Protestantism!).
I’d go along with rational individualism which I would define as one who recognizes his own God-given freedom to develop his personality but also recognizes his God-given need to live in community and is, therefore, willing to be conditioned by the community’s authority to inform and regulate his conduct.

Pel,
"Rugged Individualism" as defined by Reagan. Specifically, we don't need Big Government to nanny us through our lives, And... in essence... it's really nothing more than Faith and Works.
Please don't confuse that with autonomous individualism.

Yup. It's more proof that liberals are not actually for unlimited freedom and choice, but only for those choices that fit with their ideas.
Vir,
I'm with your amplified definition of "rugged invdividulaism."
Unfortunately, when some hang an "ism" on any ideology, they tend to only emphasize its negatives.
Didn’t Reagan modify his “rugged individualism” position as limited to blossoming only within the pre-given precepts of a "pro-family" posture—opposition to the Equal Rights Amendment and to legalized abortion?
Pel
Under the Reaganesque understanding of the definition, I'd say "yes".
"Republicans are secular version of Catholics"
Republicans are the secular version of New Agers. Ready to be all crackpottish.

Latin-hatin' Orthodox are rather annoying, in me 'umble opinion.
You missed the (or should be, anyway) part. That was kinda important.
