Uncle Duffy Calls 'Em As He Sees 'Em
That's 'Colonel Sgambelluri' to everyone else

Every so often, I check out the on-line version of the newspaper of where I did some growing up, the Pacific Daily News on the US Territory of Guam.

I'm bouncin' around from article to article, and what do I come across? An op/ed piece by my Confirmation Godfather, Colonel Adolf "Duffy" Sgambelluri, USMC (ret).

Here's a wee bit of what he wrote concerning North Korea's dictator, Kim Jong Il and his screwing around with ICBM's;

"...the United States can do only so much to hold these runaway horses playing with their threats. It is unfortunate, but this basically happens when we allow America's enemies to play games in finding ways to kill freedom-loving people instead of standing up to them. Enough is enough! The dictator we are dealing with is a thug!

No wonder I'm the way I am... it's genetic.

Hi! That's a great story! I've been reading your blog for about a week now and I love it! But I wanted to tell you something and I couldn't find an email for you anywhere. I don't know if this matters to you or not, but that picture you have at the top of your sidebar is not Our Lady of Akita. It's a very pretty picture though--it certainly looks like a Chinese or Japanese Madonna.

Here is a link to the actual Akita:

And she's not shown with the child Jesus.

Just thought you'd like to know. :)

Keep up the good work!

SL,
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I know that the pic in question isn't correctly Our Lady of Akita, but as we both know, is just a painting of The Holy Mother and The Christ Child painted in the traditional Japanese style... and I've always thought that this was pretty cool!

Thanks again,
Your friendly Caveman

I love to see Madonnas of many cultural representations. I have a blog devoted to this. If you like to see various Madonna images, too, especially from other cultures, you can visit my blog. (You might notice it hasn't been updated in awhile--that's b/c I have to create a new one b/c I lost the login to the first one. I just haven't created the new one yet but I will.)

Oh! I was also so glad to see the image of Fr. Solanus Casey that you have up. I love him! What a great, great priest. And Fr. Capodanno, too!
