It Still Holds True Today
As it did when luther changed them

Last night, the House Sergeant Major and I were watching the film Shoes of the Fisherman. Anthony Quinn's character, Kiril Cardinal Lakota, was having a discussion with a young Modernist priest. Cardinal Lakota just finished reading the priest's manuscript for a new book on theology.

The Cardinal asked the young priest was asked why he never used the word "soul" at all during the entire book. He responded "I just used a different word for it."

The Cardinal them asked him "If you're not afraid of it, why change the word?"

That got me to thinking --

Penance became Reconciliation

Mass of the Catechumens became Liturgy of the Word

Mass of the Faithful became Liturgy of Eucharist

"This is shed for you and for the many" became "This is shed for you and for all"

To many people (with their priest's approval), Jesus was no longer Christ the King, but instead, Jesus Brother and Friend

Hmmm... I wonder why they changed the words?

Supposedly it was all to make protestants more comfortable but if there's been a major movement of Baptists and Methodists into the Church I must have missed it.

I can handle both "Christ the King" and "Jesus Brother and Friend", since you can't have one without the other. Baptism brings us into the Family of the King of Kings. Jesus, being the Second Adam, is the First-Born, and we share in His inheritance.

Rightly understood, this takes nothing away from the fealty we owe to our Liege...

Dave,
There was an old saying we had in The Corps, over-familiarity breeds contempt

I agree with you. That applies to any relationship. Still, Catholicism is always about balance. We look upon God the Father with awe and dread, and yet with familiarity, daring to call Him Father, or more accurately, "Dad" (Abba). Jesus is King of Kings and Eldest Brother, and also the Bridegroom of the Soul, which is a very intimate relationship.

I could go on, but I ought to blog about this on my own...I'll have lots of time the next two weeks...

I just realized I should explain why I'll have more blogtime...off topic, I know, but...

I'm leaving the old job today. At about 11:20, I'll shut down my computer one last time, put on a tutu, dance to the HR person's office, hand in my badges, dance to the timeclock, punch out, and dance out of that anthematized place! Then it's focusing on preparations for the school year and whatever household tasks Amy has in mind for me...

Dave, I agree... Jesus IS our Brother. Unfortunantly, we have waaaaaaay too many within The Church that look upon Him as just that... our pal and good goomba.

He very well may be out Brother... but He is always ultimatly Christ The King.

Secondly, LMAO on your coment concerning your last day!!!!
