Consistency and reason were never hallmarks of leftist thought.
I don't understand the whole free tibet thing. I am as stauchly against the Communist gov't in China as the next guy, and I would like to see Tibet independent, how does that get caught up in all that left wing bagage?
Why are the lefties hatting in the Chinese communists, aren't they all comrades?
Even a blind hog occasionally finds a truffle...
They have "Free Tibet" because America's interests are not served by freeing Tibet, and no actual action is advocated.
They object to "Free Iraq" because it redounds to America's interests, and because people are actually doing it.
If it's good for America, they're opposed. If it takes more effort than mere visualization, they're opposed. If they can kill innocent unborn or disabled people in the bargain, they're in favor. If it involves liberals having orgasms (regardless of what other harm is done), they're in favor.
These may not be their actual motives, but assuming so is a reliable predictor of most liberal behavior.
