Stealing Your Land... It's Not Just For The Soviets Anymore!
The Communist Party of the USA would be PROUD!
Yet another Hat Tip to my good goomba, Marty!
Remember a few months back when that bulls**t Supreme Course decision came down that concerning how the government can simply take your land so really important things can be built... like shopping malls, parking lots, and restaurants?
Well, here's the latest government scam to STEAL your land.
Get ready for this... White County, Georgia, is about to adopt a resolution for the "protection of mountains and hillsides," which will severely restrict how private landowners may use their land. If any owner's land happens to slope as much as 25 percent, the owner may not use it at all, unless the lot is at least 1.5 acres. Then, he may disturb no more than 30 percent. If he wishes to build a home with a driveway, the total "impervious" area may not exceed 20 percent of the land.
This resolution in White County will empower government to take away the use of 70 percent of the land of a private owner. The owner must continue to pay taxes on 100 percent of the property, but may use only 30 percent.

Unfortunately (1) the Kelo case didn't create and new problems; it simply refused to revisit the perverse interpretation it gave to the fifth amendment in Poletown Neighborhood Association and similar cases years back, and (2) restrictions such as this are all too common. Even here in Kansas City, virtually any development of private property, even when it's properly zoned, takes many weeks, many large fees paid to city hall, and in the case of larger commercial developments, many hours of lawyers' bills.
And as for the Kelo/Poletown thing, I have mixed feelings. The only reason the case is a federal rights issue, instead of a state rights one is because of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the first thing I'd do if I were in Congress is propose a bill to repeal it, because that amendment opened the door to the corrupt nationalist empire we now have instead of an union of sovereign states.
