Greens Party Indoctrination 101
And other classes at Catholic Universities

While tooling around the website for my diocese, I ran across a notice that we can sign up for a class called Advanced Catholic Social Teaching through the University of Dayton's "Virtual Learning Community". In other words, through the computer, but "Virtual Learning Community" does sound much more impressive, does it not?.

Well, I decided to what said course looked like. Hmmm... interesting, indeed.

Under Course Goals I see the following;
Focus on the last four tenets by means of reading, discussion and research; these tenets are Preferential Option to the Poor and Vulnerable; the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers; Solidarity; God's Care for Creation

Hey, that stuff looks familiar! Now I got my degree many moons ago, but I certain phrases still send up red flares. Such as;

1. Preferential Option to the Poor and Vulnerable. In other words, Socialism.

2-3. The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers. In other words, Marxism.

4. God's Care for Creation. In other words, Militant Ecology

Silly me, and I still wonder why so many Catholic kids cease being Catholic upon graduating from "Catholic" colleges.

Different terminology for constant, ageless doctrines...

1) Preferential Option for the Poor: I'd point to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and the Missionaries of Charity as sterling examples of this. Also relevant Scripture passages regarding oppression of the poor (one the the Four Sins Which Cry to Heaven for Vengeance).

2 & 3)Dignity of Man and Rights of Workers: Rerum Novarum and its successor encyclicals, some Belloc and Chesterton, and relevant Scripure passasges regarding cheating the worker of his rightful wage (another of the Four Sins).

4)God's Care for Creation: Commonsense stuff here: recycling, not littering, conservation -- "crunchy con" stuff.

Dave,
As we both know, what you posted is what SHOULD be taught in Catholic schools.

And as we both know, what it has mutated to is hard core Leftie/Eco-Radical garbage

Ohhhh..... If only ALL Catholic schools taught it the way you posted it!

That's the way I'd explain it, were I in that course. Of course, I think I'd be thrown out before too long...

Haven't blogged in three weeks. Maybe I'll talk about Catholic social teaching a bit. This post and something in Amy Welborn's comboxes have gotten me going on that....
