Do Catholics worship the same "God" as Moslems?
The simple answer -- no we don't.
This isn't an insult or attack on the followers of the false-prophet Mohammad (and yes, from the Catholic perspective, he's a false prophet). I'm just stating a theological fact.
Many Catholics who look favorably on the Moslem sect point to 841 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church;
841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." Mohammed actually hijacked a pagan idol named "Allah" that had been around for centuries. Alllah, unlike the Lord God, changes his mind, allows muslims to lie to further his cause and demands everyone in the world either worship him, be subjugated to those who do, or die.
". . . in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims;"
In the first place? Shouldn't it be third place?
The historical sequence:
First place--the Hebrews/Jews
Second place--the Christians
Third place--the Muslims
I am not saying in the above that the Muslims worship the same God as Christians and Jews.
The True God doesn't command that women wear burkas, enough said.
Cavey,
I am willing to bet that if you took a survey of the "radical ecumania" promoters you would also deny the divinty of Jesus & the Holy Ghost as well. That is why they are comfortable with seeing Islam as equal to Catholicism when it isn't.
Cavey,
Islam is a false religion, and we do NOT worship the same God as the Muslims. Period, end of story!
This is another reason why the doctrinal talks between Rome and the SSPX are so important now! It is also why I do not trust or use the Universal Catechism of 1997. The Council of Trent producced a truly great one...and that's just fine with me!
Semper Fi
I'm glad someone else looked at this unfortunate passage in the New Catechism and saw it the same way I did.
Mohammed carved Jesus's name into one of his swords hoping for credibility, His early life was not pious or religious even, Hen named children after pagan gods,
Not something a [prophet following the 10 commandments would do.
