My Point Exactly
A sign of the times
Not that what this gal has to say is really all that important to me... but this wonderfully illustrates what 'The Spirit' of Vatican II has given the world.
Instead of really loving her brother and telling him the truth about a deviant and destructive lifestyle, young Anne chooses to turn her back on The Truth because of how she feeeeeeels.
Why is it not a very long stretch of the imagination to conclude that the oft-bastardized phrase "what my well formed conscience dictates" was bantered about with regularity while this self-worshipping family played ecclesiastical ping-pong?
Here's the article from USA Today;
Anne Hathaway quits Catholicism for gay brother
Anne Hathaway, who was among the stars hitting the red carpet in Hollywood last night for the premiere of Valentine's Day, says in the new British GQ that her family left the Catholic Church over its intolerant views on homosexuality.
Anne grew up wanting to become a nun but shunned Catholicism when she learned her older brother, Michael, was gay. "The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out," she tells the magazine. "Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother?"
But the Episcopal church plan didn't really work out for her either. "So I'm ... nothing," she said. "I'm a work in progress." You couldn't have said it better, hon. You are so... nothing.

Anne has joined the cult of the month club.
Don't let the door hit you on your way out Anne...Though once you recognize the Church actually recognizes the dignity of the homosexual by her position, the Sacrament of Penance awaits thee.
So I should leave the Church if a family member becomes an unrepentant Killer? What a moron!
If only everyone who disagrees with the Church would leave. Instead they try to change it to fit themselves. :-)

More indication that the moral relativism taught in the public skrewl systems and that permeates Hollywierd is the real religion. If you don't like me for what I am then I am leaving, because IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!!
SACRIFICE MUCH?
So what is this "limited" view of her brother? That he - just like her - is required to abstain from sex outside of marriage?
Because that's what Catholicism really teaches. The sexuality isn't the problem, per se - it's engaging in acts contrary to the Sacrament of Marriage that's the problem.
Anne and her whole family obviously weren't very loyal Catholics to begin with and her folks, at least, likely can't blame it on the typical, watered-down post-Vat2 catechesis.
The Truth at all costs event if the cost is loss of family etc etc. Anne has got it all mixed up doesnt she
Amy, the first step in the issue to to abide by the Commandment not to commit adultry. But wait there is more. Jesus repairs the damage caused by the Fall. You do not simply stop once you get the sex thing under control; you keep on going on ... repair the damage. Jesus shows us how to do this.
Jimmy Breslin once said, "Nobody leaves the Catholic Church." His point was that they may stay away, not attend Mass and the Sacraments, but when push comes to shove, they start looking for a priest. I imagine that if young Anne felt a sharp pain in her chest and dropped to the floor, she'd be looking for a priest as well.
Congratulations to Anne for her integrity and love of her brother. May she be an example to true Christians everywhere.
Susan,
So much for integrity and love for Christ, huh?
She would show integrity by standing up for the right instead of cow-towing to appease her brother's warped sense of what is right & what is wrong!
Susan -
Indulging someone's delusion or perversion is not love.
I'll bet she wasn't much of a Catholic to begin with. Between her penchant for playing peekaboo with her bosom in public and her relationship with the Italian con man I really don't think she was a Dolores Hope or Loretta Young and then became nothing.
