This Is Exciting News
I've been waiting for quite some time now

Let's be honest, Pope Benedict XVI is responsible for the next Great Re-Awakening. And it couldn't come any sooner.

Here's just some of the article from Catholic Culture; (Emphasis and comments mine)
New hints of movement toward Vatican-Moscow 'summit'
December 02, 2009

On the eve of a meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev, there are new signs of substantial progress in relations between the Holy See and the Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow, and hint that a “summit” meeting between the Pope and Russian Patriarch Kirill might be under discussion. The Russian Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow has published a collection of speeches by Pope Benedict XVI, and a government official in Belarus has suggested that his country might be an appropriate place for the much-anticipated ecumenical summit.

The new book produced by the Moscow patriarchate, Europe Spiritual Homeland, is a collection of talks by Pope Benedict over the past decade—both before and after his election as Roman Pontiff—addressing the spiritual crisis in Europe. The book, published in Italian and Russian, carries an introduction by Archbishop Hilarion, the chief ecumenical officer of the Russian Orthodox Church.
(What a humble and gracious act by the Patriarch.)

Since the January election of Kirill to succeed Alexei II as Patriarch of Moscow, ecumenical contacts with the Vatican have increased dramatically. The new Russian Patriarch has strong personal ties with Pope Benedict; he met with the Pontiff on three different occasions while serving as the chief ecumenical official for the Moscow patriarchate. Patriarch Kirill has expressed a keen interest in cooperating with the Catholic Church, especially in the struggle against secularism in Europe: the topic of the new collection of papal speeches.
And is it just coincidence that I was listening to Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition when I read this article?

Was it the Emerson Lake & Palmer version?

This is great news, btw. Thanks for reporting on it.

Well, at least Mussorgsky is not as bad as Stravinsky. Now seriously, enrich yourself more with Tchaikovsky. Even Shostakovich would be an improvement! :)

Back in March you asked on my wannabee-blog about my last name. Alas, there is no "s" at the end. Nevertheless, I'm sure your wife comes from good stock or she couldn't tolerate YOU! HAHAHAHA :) :)

Both hierarchs have the same enemies: secular jihadists, homofascists, jihadists, war-mongerers and liberalism in general. If BXVI could convince Pat. Kyril et al to get the MP out of the WCC that would great.

I wouldn't completely trust the MP though. It was created by stalin and many of it's bishops are Soviet left-overs. Trust but verify.

A note on ecclesiastical politics and an admission of my cynicism (or is it realpolitik?) given I am in one of my moods again. It's the holidays.

Right now in this period of history, the RCC needs the ROC (or Orthodoxy in general) more than the ROC (or Orthodoxy) needs the RCC. In human terms, the way Western Civilization is going, the CC is in big trouble. Large numbers of erstwhile Catholics really aren't Catholic fundamentally. The recent controversy/scandal with Patrick Kennedy is just an example or perhaps the tip of the iceberg.

Orthodoxy has survived the Catholic Church's and Western civilization's machinations in past Church/European history. Orthodoxy has survived the Turks--sort of--and even the Commies, though it was brutalized by both.

The Papacy is under attack from within and without. The within attack IMHO is more serious than the attack from without (secularists). Of course we RCs (from the RC POV) know that the Papacy and the CC will prevail due to the power of the Holy Spirit. Nonetheless, from a strictly human and historical POV, if the Papacy survives, ironically it may be due to Russian Orthodoxy's support of the RCC.

This could be the Holy Spirit's way of arranging unity between East and West via the back door!
