One Step Closer
And thank God for it all
As Pope John Paul II gets fast tracked in what seems not so much a process of canonization, but more an ecclesiastical popularity contest, we all see that Pope Pius XII's case has been tempered in time.
I can personally see one on more deserving that H.H. Pope Pius XII as being declared Venerable. His example of Faith & Works are truly heroic.
Yet there are still some who are blinded by their own bigotry and blindness. CatholicCulture.org has this article where certain Jewish leaders criticize the declaration.
If you should happen to be engaged in conversation with anyone else decrying The Vatican announcement, here are some posts I've done in the past that may be of assistance -
This article from The Catholic News Agency describes how Nazi Minister of Propaganda, Josef Goebbels denounced Ven. Pope Pius XII due to his anti-Nazi statements.
From Forbes.com in regards to Ven. Pius XII knowing full and well that he was about to be kidnapped and sent to a concentration camp. This posting also speaks of the German "Operation Rabat-Fohn," to be executed in January 1944. The plan called for the 8th SS Cavalry Division, disguised as Italians, to seize St. Peter's and "massacre Pius XII with the entire Vatican” — and specifically names "the papal protest in favor of the Jews" as the cause.
This article from The Telegraph (London) reports that Ven. Pope Pius XII ordered that if and when the Nazis kidnapped him, that his resignation would take effect immediately. The bishops would then be expected to flee to a safe country – probably neutral Portugal – where they would re-establish the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church and appoint a new Pontiff.
Rabbi David G. Dalin states in his book "The Myth of Hitler's Pope" that Ven. Pope Pius XII saved the lives of thousands of Jews.

Jesus also saved the lives of countless Jews, yet He is continually denounced by their spokesmen more by actions than by clear words.
Many Jews over the past twothousand years have embraced Jesus Christ for Who He Is, but many have not even recognized Him, and some strive against Him.
I'm thinking of actions such as promoting abortion, homosexuality, embryonic stem cell research, euthanesia, pornography, political corruption, faux patriotism, competition against Islam to dominate the world (like David and Goliath), using the status of involvement in good works to undermine the Church, refusing to acknowledge the Son of God, and more.
The accusation that Pope Pius XII failed to help the Jews originated in a disinformation campaign personally ordered by Stalin.
It was none other than the Archbishop of New York, Francis Spellman (before he was made a Cardinal), who held in safe keeping the letter of resignation of Pope Pius XII.
Oh BTW, IMHO the complaints of "some Jewish leaders" over the declaration that Pope Pius XII is "venerable" are nothing but a bunch of anti-Catholic bigots.
Pardon my french cavepeople, but 'F' those a-holes! P12 saved jews. Rome needs the next Pope to be like him, hell as good as B16 is he needs to be MORE like P12.
Pio XII ora pro nobis!
This is good news. I am blessed to have successfully defended Pius XII against lies on more than one occasion.
After the war, even the NY Times praised Pius XII's efforts to save the Jews. So impressed was he for the Pope's efforts, the chief rabbi of Rome converted to Catholicism and took the Pope's name as his new name.
When examining the historical record of Pius XII it is important to note that all of the commentary and primary sources from the 40s and 50s is very positive, from Christians, the Allied leaders, and most importantly, the Jews. We know from Soviet defectors that the KGB wanted to defame Pius to weaken the incredible moral power the Church wielded and useful idiots in the West ate it all up even after the fall of the Soviet Empire. So what should we believe in? The primary source evidence from people who knew Pius, from people who lived at the same time as he did? Or are we to trust the assertions of contemporary embittered ex-Catholics, neo-Communists, and Protestant fundamentalists like Jack Chick? I think the answer is very clear. Finally, isn't it interesting to note that John Cornwell has disowned his work on "Hitler's Pope?"

And when Cornwell wrote his slanderous book he was a failed (former) Catholic priest.
