Which path will the Catholic Church in America take?
To paraphrase Yogi Berra - there's a fork in the road. Take it.
As we all know, we can't even glance at any given Catholic new portal without reading blow-by-blow accounts of the nuclear melt-down that is the Catholic Church in Ireland.
With that said, I've just read two different news articles as I sit here sipping my morning Java. Here's the headlines and just a touch of the articles themselves; (Emphasis mine)
LA monsignor called before grand jury

LOS ANGELES — A lawyer says a Roman Catholic monsignor has testified before a federal grand jury investigating how the Archdiocese of Los Angeles handled claims of priest abuse.
Attorney John Manly told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the former vicar for clergy Monsignor Richard Loomis testified before the grand jury on Dec. 16 and was granted immunity. _____________________________

With the Senate poised to pass its healthcare bill Thursday morning, abortion may be the biggest sticking point in the coming attempt to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the legislation.
More than any other religious body, it's the U.S. Roman Catholic bishops that have informed those senators' abortion positions.

Well, Catholicism in this country is at a crossroads. We can go down the path Ireland chose (and may never recover from), or we can honest and forthcoming in exposing the protectors of rapists... even at the cost of a few being granted immunity from prosecution.
Either choice will have consequences that will last for many decades to come.
