Yesterday, following High Mass at a Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) chapel, I started musing over my morning coffee. My mind tried to contemplate how upside down the Church is today. Allow me to give you all an example:
A raging heretic like Cardinal Roger Mahony and a flaming homo like retired Archbishop Rembert “I didn’t know nailing young boys was a crime” Weakland are considered in “full communion” with Rome. Yet, the SSPX, who upholds every single doctrine of Holy Mother Church, and believes as every Catholic (and Pope) around the world did up until 1965, are somehow still not in “full communion” with the Church.
Makes one say, “WTF, over!”

I don't get it either, but I'm still a n00b to Catholicism.
You know, PV2, it may not sound like it hereafter, but I have a lot of sympathy for your position.
But here's mine: I hold every single doctine of Holy Mother Church, and I believe as every Catholic (and Pope) aournd the world did up until 1965, and I'm in full communion with the Church and the Bishop of Rome.
Why isn't the SSPX?
Uh huh. Something I've wondered about for years!
You forgot to mention that we're supposed to rush out each day and hug a Protestant ~ but snub the SSPX.
As a reader from his "Diocese" (Mahony's), I'd say that the majority of the diocese isn't "In Communion with Rome" the Liturgical Abuse at for all intensive purposes 95% (and that's being generous) of the parishes in Los Angeles, immediately takes the majority of the diocese out of Communion....
Yes. There are mysteries to life.
The problem with the SSPX is that they cannot tell the difference between Vatican II and the Spirit of Vatican II.
Paul,
Good question. My answer has always been, "Ask Rome." How do they (Rome) remain silent and/or condone such horrible bishops/priests/theologians, but bring the full force of canon law on top of Traditionalists, especially the SSPX.
Think I may go back to drinking!
Liturgical abuse.......Look at the diocese of Fresno. Ca. A priest who illegaly took money from his parish and was caught cruising gay sex on the internet is now the director of liturgy under bishop John T. Steinbock. In Steinbocks Fresno, when a priest told the world he was gay and that the faithful should not support ptoposition 8, half the congregation stood in applause and support of the homo priest. Shows you the level of doctirnal education in the diocese of Fresno.
Make it the good stuff PreVat2!
"The problem with the SSPX is that they cannot tell the difference between Vatican II and the Spirit of Vatican II."
No matter how much spirit of Vatican II there is, there is still the problem that the council itself contains ambiguity which helps this said spirit to exist in the first place.
I think this comes from a total lack of leadership in the area of defining what the Catholic Church teaches and making sure that this is what is taught and preached by the clergy in a universal way. I will never understand why the leadership allows lies and false teaching to distort what the Catholic Church is all about free of any consequences. I will also understand why when the Pope writes something, it has to be so rambling and unclear in many ways allowing those who seek to distort it everything they need in the writing to do so. When someone lies or distorts Church teaching, they should be called to Rome and changes made if there is not change in the position of that bishop, priest, or religious. The Buck stops no where in the Catholic Church.
I wonder that too. On another blog they were discussing whether marriages in an SSPX parish are valid. I asked how come a marriage to a heretic is okay but marriage to a Catholic who goes to an SSPX chapel is invalid. Never got an answer.
