Cavemen In The Attack Mode

In regards to the previous posting concerning Father Newman of St. Mary's (Greenville, SC) being backstabbed by his own superior, here are a handful comments I think are worthy of being brought to everyones attention;Vetus Melius Est said...
Everyone should flood that priest's voicemail with explicit messages of support! SHAME on the administrator of the Diocese of Charleston! Now, maybe the Vatican will take notice of what a pitiful state that diocese is in and send them a worthy bishop.

This doesn't surprise me, at all. When the good Father's announcement was made public, I wondered how long it would be before one of the successors of Judas Iscariot slapped him down.
How can a person honestly claim to have a well-formed, i.e.consistent with Church doctrine, conscience and support a guy who is willing to kill babies that, through the grace of God, survive a botched abortion?

To everyone willing to follow the excellent suggestion of Vetus Melius Est (see above), Father Newman's phone number is:

_______________________________ I just made the call to St Mary's supporting Father Newman. Unfortunately, the message box is full. I'll try again Monday.
And I also just got done calling The Diocese of Charleston to let the Diocesan Administrator know of my support for Father Newman, and my disgust over Fr. Newman being Judased by one of his own.
Chancery phone - (843) 853-2130 ext. 203 (Office of the Bishop).
But hey, none of us should be shocked. The Blessed Mother warned us of this years ago."The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres (other priests). Churches and altars will be sacked. The Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord."
~ The Blessed Virgin Mary. Akita, Japan. 1973
And for those who still doubt the Church approved apparitions at Akita, exactly how big does the anvil landing on your head need to be before you wake up and smell the rot?
One thing's for sure... Father Newman knows exactly what the undercarraige of a bus looks like.

thanks for the contact number! BTW--can you post the number for the Parish? I'll be doing some calling on my own.
Gee--I wonder how one promotes an auto de fe, and how much the tickets should sell for.
Hey Caveman,
I have something for you at:
http://faithofaconvert.blogspot.com/2008/11/butterfly-award.html
Just left a message for the Msgr. This actually may be worth a trip to Father Neuman's parish just to make the point more personal.
What a great Priest, another one that I would lay down my life for!
A great priest...laying out his life for the sake of the faithful. May the Vatican take notice and appoint him the Bishop or may a Bishop be appointed that was the successor to the 11 and boldly proclaim the Faith
Does this REAL Priest have an email??? Calling from overseas is a drag...
Father Newman has been receiving a lot of hate mail and even death threats I am told so please keep trying to get your messages of support through to him if you can I am sure he needs them right now.
God Bless.
CC,
I couldn't find an e-mail address, just the Parish Office phone number (as FAB posted).
BTW, it's horrible what happened to your cousin. Why do I have a hard time believing that anyone will charge the 4 attackers with a so-called "hate crime"?

Rita,
Thanks! But Anita and Christine already tagged me.
I think the best thing to do is to pick apart the statement on part of the Administrator, which is now posted on the diocesan website. Fr. Newman, bless him, is apparently being forced into obedient silence on this matter... let's do pray this extraordinary humility, which I would perceive a heroic act in the midst of injustice to him and the unborn, bears fruit in the grace of a good bishop for the diocese.
What is most striking is that the statement from the diocese is at best only a half-truth. The administrator is right in that one can approach Holy Communion when their conscience is free- even in this case when we are talking about cooperation with the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to be elected to this high office.
But for this little moral-theology slight-of-hand to work, there needs to be a terrible breakdown in the STRUCTURES (i.e. the Church) that FORM these consciences. A conscience can only truly choose in freedom when it is formed rightly (by the light of faith and reason), which, intrestingly is what it seems Fr. Newman (and not enough of his colleagues and diocesan administrators and bishops) have been doing by his courageous teaching.
To teach in union with the Church, which it would seem Fr. Newman was doing, would put the faithful 'on the line' to assent in conscience to the authentic teaching of the Church, making dissent, indeed, sinful, and approaching Holy Communion when in dissent gravely sinful. Is he potentially making a sin where ignorance previously reigned? Perhaps.
When a conscience is invincibly ignorant, yes, the person can choose to support a pro-abortion candidate and approach Communion... but if that condition truly exists (a big 'if'), I do not see that as much of a complement to those whose jobs it is to preach, teach, and sanctify. Indeed, it is an indictment against every pastor in the Church when this happens.
Fr. Newman's first duty is to fight against grave moral evils-- the first condition necessary for his flock to wander into sin. The two other conditions necessary to have sin, knowledge that an act is evil and full consent of will, may or may not be present depending on conscience... and if they are not present, no, there is not formal sin. In any case, the ontic evil remains and Fr. Newman still has a responsibility (at the cost of his soul) to preach against it and form the consciences of his flock accordingly.
The half-truth of the Administrator (and the over-nuanced Faithful Citizenship document which has institutionalized this thinking) is the same reasoning that has lead us into this unfortunate state which we are in where many Catholics think they can rationalize away what is right and good and true in favor of the "vain pomp and glory of the world".
Half-truths are the classic tool of the devil to lead otherwise well-meaning people astray.
