Catholic Charities of San Francisco committed to increasing “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender” adoptions
By Gibbons Cooney
On Aug. 2, 2006, Catholic Charities of San Francisco issued a press release describing their new “partnership” with Family Builders by Adoption, which calls itself “the gayest [adoption] agency in the country.”
The release did not mention that the very day before, Aug. 1, 2006, Family Builders by Adoption had just begun fulfilling a $1,755,000 contract with another “partner”-- the City and County of San Francisco. That contract required Family Builders to meet the conditions spelled out in the city’s “Request for Proposal to Provide Various Adoption Services” (RFP #309), issued on May 15, 2006. RFP #309 specified “Increasing the number of children adopted by Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) adults,” as well as providing, “The plan should include targeted recruitment of LGBT adults.”
We know what followed: Catholic Charities “doubled the staff” and/or provided $250,000 annually to Family Builders by Adoption; the archdiocesan justification that Catholic Charities would not be involved in placement, therefore cooperation was remote, therefore would not violate Church teaching against placing children in “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender” households; the promise that this was part of a larger adoption program that would also include outreach to Catholic parishes which has never happened, to the best of my knowledge. Given the dilemma that Catholic Charities faces between being faithful to Church teaching and being able to accept public funding, it probably could not happen. But the contract between the City and County of San Francisco and Family Builders shows beyond doubt that, once Catholic Charities supplied staff to FBA, it was committing itself not just to tolerating but to increasing the number of children placed in “Lesbian Gay Bisexual & Transgender” households.
“It is a privilege to be working with Jill Jacobs and the Family Builders team,” said Brian Cahill, executive director of Catholic Charities, in a Catholic Charities press release dated Aug. 2, 2006. And why wouldn’t Mr. Cahill be happy? According to the office of the California Secretary of State, just about five months before, on March 20, 2006, Mr. Cahill donated $100 to the “Equality for All PAC” -- an organization dedicated to the legalization of same-sex “marriage.” And why wouldn’t Dr. Motola, the openly homosexual director of Programs and Services at Catholic Charities, be happy? He was a board member over at Family Builders, and he and his boyfriend Mark Walden had adopted a child in 2000. And why wouldn’t current Catholic Charities treasurer and board member Nanette Lee Miller be happy? She’s the open lesbian who “married” another woman in 2004, and who currently sits on the advisory board of the Horizons Foundation, which has given $100,000 to “Equality California” so far this year. Even Archbishop George Niederauer said he was happy about it, which suggests the possibility that he may not have known all the details.

Hey Cavey, how about a warning for those of us who just ate before coming to your blog? I think I'm gonna hurl!
See this is where I really have a hard time. You see I am a practical person. To me these people are directly conflicting Church teaching. SO WHERE ARE THE CHURCH HEIRARCHY EXACTING AUTHORITY ON THESE BUMS!
Do the poor souls of the children that will be given to these disordered men and women mean anything to anyone? The words Charities and Catholic should be removed forever from this organization.
