Joey Hairplugs To Bishop Saltarelli: Screw You
...and so much for a certain priest being loyal to his bishop
According to the Associated Press; (Emphasis mine)
Biden attends Mass weekly and didn't miss it on Sunday, either, attending services and taking Communion at St. Joseph on the Brandywine near his home in Greenville, Del. Hmmm... interesting.
As I just posted this week-end, the Bishop of the Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware recently stated that so-called "pro-abortion Catholics" should not receive Holy Communion. Click here for specifically what Bishop Saltarelli stated. He left little to the imagination.
But here's the meat and potatoes of what Bishop Saltarelli said;"The promotion of abortion by any Catholic is a grave and serious matter. Objectively, according to the constant teaching of the Scriptures and the Church, it would be more spiritually beneficial for such a person to refrain from receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. I ask Catholics in this position to have the integrity to respect the Eucharist, Catholic teaching and the Catholic faithful." It's blatantly obvious that Joey Hairplugs has no respect for the authority of Bishop Saltarelli.
So here's my open letter to His Excellency, Bishop Saltarelli.
Your Excellency,
According to the Associated Press*, US Senator Joseph R. Biden presented himself (August 24, 2008) for, and received The Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine parish. In light of your statements** that;
"The promotion of abortion by any Catholic is a grave and serious matter. Objectively, according to the constant teaching of the Scriptures and the Church, it would be more spiritually beneficial for such a person to refrain from receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. I ask Catholics in this position to have the integrity to respect the Eucharist, Catholic teaching and the Catholic faithful." Your Excellency, I personally find it obvious that Senator Biden has chosen to ignore (if not openly challenge) your Apostolic Authority.
As if that wasn't bad enough (if the AP article is factual, and I have no reason to believe otherwise), doesn't that entail that someone at St. Joseph on the Brandywine parish is challenging you, as well?
Unfortunately, it's increasingly common for members of the Laity to ignore (if not outright publicly challenge) their ecclesiastical leaders. But I'm sure you'll agree that when ordained priests who've taken a vow of obedience to their Bishop, choose to ignore said Bishop and instead to give the general public, via the national media, the unmistakable impression that these very same priests owe more loyalty to a politically leader than their own Bishop, then obviously.... there's something dreadfully wrong.
I pray that God give you the strength and force of will to admonish, correct, and possibly even discipline those who have sought to usurp your authority. Yours in Christ, (insert name here)

For those interested, here's Bishop Saltarelli's e-mail page. Feel free to cut and paste and send him an e-mail, as well. http://www.cdow.org/bishopmails.html
I ask everyone reading this to invest a few seconds and send an e-mail to Bishop Saltarelli. If he gets deluged with hundreds, if not thousands of e-mails, possibly something of substance will be done concerning this none-too-subtle act challenge to him, as well as disrespect to Our Lord.
Please post this on your blog, and e-mail it to everyone you know. Remember... silence never accomplished a thing.

Bp. Saltarelli has retired, no successor yet in place.
Evidently Biden went out of his way to avoid Saltarelli at the communion-line...he knew what would happen.
D29,
Ummmmm..... as of yesterday when I checked the Diocese of Wilmington's website, Bishop Saltarelli is in place, not retired, but slated to in a couple of weeks. There is also a replacement named. Bishop Doohey, I believe his name is.
As far as Joey Hairplugs ducking Bp Saltarelli is concerned... what does that have to do with anything? He's the bishop of that particular diocese, and the priests are vowed obedience to him. And it really doesn't matter if he retires in two weeks, two years, or two seconds from now. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I figured that the priests would be loyal to their bishop. Guess they proved me wrong.
Then again, if Bishop Saltarelli is as gutless as described on the website you referenced, then he deserves to be punked out by everyone concerned.
That is, if the episodes that are rumored about on the site you reff'ed are true.
My parents, who live in the Archdiocese of Phil., visited mme yesterday and told me that their pastor made a single comment before his homily - that Mr. Biden is NOT a Catholic. Nothing more, just that simple statement. I think it said it all.
I would have liked to hear something like that at my church, but our parochial vicar is not a citizen and I doubt if it occured to him to say anything.
I have always wondered how you can be Catholic and a Democrat - isn't that an oxymoron?
One of priests decided to conclude his homily this past Sunday with a thorough fisking of the book by Kerry Kennedy that has quotes from celebrity Catholics. Considering Father isn't usually political, I wouldn't expect a direct condemnation of Biden (he didn't even mention the Celebrities by name)but, Father's message was pretty clear. Catholics who don't agree with the Church, are not really Catholic
Regrets--I mis-read the blog entry.
As you are aware, there are about 10 Bishops-with-cojones in the entire USA.
I don't have one here in Milwaukee.
As to "obedient priests", if I had a penny for every disobedient priest I knew of, I'd be living in Bahamas on the interest...and living damn well.
