The California Catholic Daily Just Doesn't Seem To Get It
How can such a 1st rate publication get this so wrong? Over and over and over
An interesting article from the CCD concerning Summorum Pontificum. Can anyone else spot the consistent screw-up? Here's a few snippets;
In response to Pope Benedict XVI’s motu proprio, Summorum Pontificum, San Diego’s Bishop Robert Brom has approved a weekday celebration of the traditional Latin Mass (Tridentine Rite).
Since the motu proprio’s publication in June, three (California) bishops now have expressed their willingness to accommodate those who desire to attend the Tridentine Mass.
In July, Monterey’s new bishop, Richard Garcia, said he would provide two, non-parish locations for the celebration of the Mass.

Oh! Oh! I know! Pick me!
The common theme is that each of these are about bishops approving masses according to the 1962 missal, when Summorum Pontificum makes clear that every priest has a right to celebrate the extraordinary form, and it's for Pastors -- not bishops -- to make the old mass available.
The bishop's role is to support the pastor, and ensure that the celebration of all masses of either form are being done correctly.
Since the motu proprio’s publication in June,
Ummm...that would be o7/o7/o7
Do I win anything? ;}

Hey... I don't know if you'll see this before you leave, but I don't think I'll be able to recognize you tonight (and Fr P will be too busy with the bishop, I suppose, to think that I might know who you are and subsequently introduce us...)
I'll be wearing a beige and black stripey shirt & black skirt... come find me if I don't see you first!

Give a Bp. two cents' authority and they'll take...oh...maybe $661 million...
Gee, I guy has to wake up (and log on!) pretty early to beat Paul (teacher's pet!). I caught the same errors, but kudos to PMG who got the date! I missed it completely.
Can't wait to see the report on the Mass with your bishop as "sermon-giver" (sorry, "homilist" kept sticking in my throat).
Just after the encore presentation of the TLM on EWTN, They had two bishops and a priest on the World Over talking about SP.
One of the bishops was I think Burke, and when asked about the need for approval, he replied that this is no longer an indult. No permission is needed.
Plus, if you examine the document, SP abrogates all previous rules and places the authority to have a TLM not on the bishop but the priest.
It seems the scaredy-cat bishops are trying to expand their unfluence where the pope himself says they have none.
