WHAT!!?? No Sex Scandal? No Zillion Dollar Pay-Out? No Heresy Preached From The Pulpit?
Just a decent story about the Catholic Church from the secular media?

Helmet tip to Simon-Peter Vickers-Buckley of Simon Peter Says

If you thought the freeing of the Traditional Latin Mass was a miracle, get ready for this... a secular newspaper actually had a decent story about The Catholic Church... on the front page, no less.

The Raleigh News & Observer ran a front-page article entitled As church grows, priest ranks shrink. Yeah, it sounds like a grim story, but it isn't. It's actually pretty uplifting.

Of course, there's the requisite nay-sayer from Catholic University of America who can't seem to say anything positive about H.E. Bishop Burbidge, even though in the one year and handful of months that Bishop Burbidge has been here, the Diocese of Raleigh has gone from 1 or 2 men entering the seminary a year (sometimes a whopping zero)... to 21 this year alone. That didn't happen by accident.

Anyhow, I'm not going to post much from the article, except these two rather short paragraphs. They sum it all up;

But there is a curious thing about the new crop of Catholic priests. Many of them, such as Burbeck, who is 23, have a passionate commitment to the Catholic Church. At a time when many Catholics blame their priests for the horrific cases of sexual abuse of children, Burbeck said that in embracing the church, he felt not qualms but clarity.

"That's the reason I was created," Burbeck said referring to his desire to become a priest. "That's the meaning of my life."

I LOVE PRIESTS and this post was so inspiring! I posted the Raleigh link on our blog just a while ago.

God bless our priests and let us pray for them, encourage young men and vocations. What a hope this is...a cleansing tide.

Thank you for this post.

PAX,
susie

Even the MSM has to recognize the truth occasionally.

I think the increased use of the classical Latin Mass as a result of Summorum Pontificum will also cause an increase in priestly vocations. (In fact, I am praying for it.) Part of this increase will come from altar BOYS who see good and holy priests reverently celebrating the Mass.

Regarding "good and holy priests," we ALL need to pray four our priests every day. Satan fears and hates them and is always warring against them. They need our prayers.

Regarding altar boys, I am curious if bishops and diocesan priests, especially those not favorably disposed to the classical Mass will try to stretch Pope JPII's permission for female altar servers to include the classical Mass. Of course, whether or not to use female altar srevers is ultimately up the the celebrant, though we know the pressure some bihops can bring to bear and also how weak-kneed some priests are in the face of an irate parent. (I have it on VERY good authority that there will not be girl altar servers at classical Masses celebrated by an FSSP priest.)
