And The Official Vir Speluncae Catholicus Endorsement Goes To...
Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA)
I've been sitting on it for quite some time now who I'll be backing for Prez. Obviously, the top three so-called "Republican" contenders, better known on this blog as The Fraud Squad, are actually nothing more than fiscally conservative Democrats.
Being a San Diego native, I've been following Congressman Hunter for some time now, and I tell ya, he's the closest thing to a Reagan Republican that I've seen yet. In fact, I can't think of a single issue that I don't agree with him wholeheartedly.
Click here to read what his stances are on everything from abortion, to illegal immigration, to legislation concerning homosexuals being declared a "protected class", to the UN. Interesting reading, indeed.
And besides, is there another Presidential candidate who has a son who volunteered specifically for Marine Infantry so he could fight for his country? Congressman Hunter has. If there's another, someone let me know so I can correct this post.
I'll admit, I was initially drawn to Senator Sam Brownback, but I get the feeling that he's really not going to commit himself all that aggressively to the War on Terrorism.
I know Paul is gonna disagree with me, so I won't push it. And besides, the mere thought of a kilt-clad, Claymore swingin' Paul coming after yours truly gives me a serious case of the heebie-geebies.

A big Caveman thanks to Doug Gaets for reminding me that Sen. John McCain has two sons serving. One in my beloved Corps, and another who is currently attending the US Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Ok, here it is: If Hunter is nominated, I will be pleasantly surprised, and will cheerfully -- enthusiastically, even -- back him for President.
On my blog I have logos and links for three candidates: Brownback, Tancredo and, yes, Hunter. Anyone who doesn't know Hunter should get educated about him. He merits having an eye kept on him. He has good positions, possibly better than Brownback's in some cases.
I have not come out with an endorsement in the presidential race yet (and you gotta know they're all losing sleep over that!), because I want to see more about how these guys campaign, what sort of tenacity they have, and how they draw attention to themselves (which they must figure out how to do, the current media environment notwithstanding), and yes, whether they can raise money.
There is no chance I'll vote one of the "annointed ones" (Mayor Giuliani, Senator McCain or Governor Romney), but I'm not sure yet who I will ultimately support.
I would like to see pro-lifers unite around one good pro-life candidate so as not to be divided and conquered by the punditocracy in the GOP who don't really care about abortion except as an occasionally-used club with which to beat Democrats. But if that one candidate pro-life candiate we unite around turns out to be Hunter, I won't be displeased.
I have leaned more towards Brownback for the simple reason that I think that a Senator has a much better chance of being nominated than a Congressman.
But hey, Hunter would be good.
On candidates' children in the military:
John McCain has two sons currently in the service. One is currently a sophomore at the U.S. Naval Academy, and the other enlisted in the Marines within the last year or two.
Doug Gates
I like Hunter and where he stands, esp. his solid 2nd Amendment credentials. Whether he can draw the contributionas to fund a national campaign -- I don't think he is well known in most places -- is another question. The politically correct castrati will never get behind the plain-speaking Tancredo, who would be a good choice. The fact thast Brownback coverted to the One Trus Faith despite the possible politcial cost tells me a lot about him, but absent some big surge, I think he is already too far behind. I don't think pro-abort Guliani (Jesuit-educated) will last.
Sorry Paul, I thought you were a Brownback man. Does that mean you won't be coming after me with your Claymore a' swingin'?
Sorry Paul, I thought you were a Brownback man.
I think it's too early to pick just one. I think this is the time for rejecting disqualified, like all three "frontrunners", rather than picking "the one".
Knowing me, I'd have to pick "the one" two or three times before the nomination is settled.
(I remember in '96, readily visible under my Dole/Kemp bumper sticker, were Gramm and Keyes bumper stickers -- illustrating how I'd backed first Gramm, then Keyes, before Dole was nominated.)
No claymore for you.
At least you didn't endorse that Catholic-hater Tancredo.
Not bad, personally wished you endorsed Brownback, but at least u didn't endorse that baby-killer Giuliani!
