Maybe They Just Really, Really REALLY Like The Name
Nahhh... that couldn't be it
WARNING! Harsh language alert!
For some odd reason, I have a tough time convincing myself that English and Welsh families really like the name Mohammed enough to give it to their sons.
Hmmmmm... Mohammed Smythe-Dumbarton? Muhammed Llywelyn? Mohammed Gwynne? Mohammed Windsor?
Nope, I ain't buyin' it. So why is Mohammed a more popular name for baby boys in England and Wales than George (of St. George fame)? According to The Telegraph of London, it's "reflecting the diverse ethnic mix of the population".
Oh, BULLSHIT! It's because you British are allowing the barbarian hordes to take over your nation while you hand it to them on a silver platter.
Hey English and Welsh... how's it feel knowing your Patron Saint was just overtaken by Mohammed?

The English martyrs are rolling over in their graves.
I wonder how long it will take before the UK is lost to Christendom and becomes a caliphate.
I just read the same story over at brusselsjournal.com about Brussels.
Actually, I think that 5 or 6 of the top 10 names in the Brussels region of Belgium were Arabic names.
My wife is Belgian. It saddens us to no end.
I'm ashamed of my Welsh brothers (I'm Norman-Welsh on my fathers side) for aquiescing like a bunch of Frenchmen!
Due to my ethnic background and bias, it will surely not happen that the UK will succumb to dhimmitude, eg, a caliphate.
There will be a civil war before that happens and I intend to join the fight if that ever happens.
Remember the Battle of Hastings!
The amalgamation of nationalities residing in Britain reflects its colonizing past.
I asked my mother-in-law, an Irish woman living in Liverpool England, “How many Irish are there in Liverpool?” To which she replies, “All that can swim.”
The Brits, during their empire-building period, sought to colonize much of the world. Now the main goal of colonization is to bring the gold home and leave the natives in place, preferably at rest. The Brits overplayed their hand in the near and mid-east colonies and the natives eventually got restless. In hopes to perhaps appease, the Brits granted to those born in a British colony the right to move to Britain and live there.
Now Britain's main immigrant/minority groups are Indians, Punjabi Sikhs, East African Asians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Chinese, and West Indians. The Brit’s chickens, so to speak, have come home to roost.

Of course this could also makes sense if, and only if, in prior years the names Larry and Curly were the most often used.

Pel,
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's far easier for an Irishman to assimilate to British society than say.... an Punjabi or a Sri Lankan.
But I get the gist of what you're saying.
O'Pellicuddy,
Please keep in mind, I was ref'ing to the Irish assimilation into British society, and not into any particular race.
Even with the differences the Irish have with those from the British Isles, the Irish have a darn sight more in common with them than those from south central Asia.
Lord Vir,
That's the point upon which we agree: the Irish and Brits have many more racial, religious and ancestral points of commonality than do Asians and Brits.
The opinion I offer from experience is that that commonality is the very reason the Brits' resentment of Irish seems greater than their resentment of Asians. Family squabbles are often more intense and last longer than those between strangers. Human nature, I think.
There is a general prejudice against the Irish living in England and a particular prejudice against Irish Catholics. I have experienced it.
Church and state in England are not separate as they are here. Those who are not members of the Church of England are less likely to do well in English society. The class system continues in their monarchy. It's a veiled dhimmitude, but a dhimmitude nonetheless.
Has the name "Patrick" ever topped the list of favorites in merry ol' England?

I suspect the current environment will preclude much more Muslim immigration: this is already the case with medical jobs - European doctors are to be preferred in employment to non-Europeans.
Bear in mind, too, that Christians have a multitude of saints names to draw upon (and secular folk make their own names up - Apple, Peaches, Cherry-Pie, Zippidy-doo-dah etc etc) From the little I know of Muslims they have a limited range of names to draw upon and in the current climate of a Muslim 'culture' experiencing a crisis which may ultimately kill it from within and without, they express their insecurity by calling ALL their kids Mo.
They COULD mix it up a bit by calling some of their kids Larry and Curly, I suppose, or even Harpo, Groucho or Chico...
