"My Best Friend's Sister's Boyfriend's Brother's Girlfriend Heard From This Guy Who Knows This Kid Who's Going With The Girl Who Saw Ferris Pass Out At 31 Flavors Last Night. I Guess It's Pretty Serious"
-Vapid chick from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

As many of you know, I hate to post any information on this blog without supporting references. This is the exception.

In regards to Bishop Burbidge taking the helm here in Raleigh from Bishop Joseph "Just Call Me Joe" Gossman. I have on very good authority that the following is true;

Retiring Bishop Gossman was, I've heard, not too happy when he learned that Bishop Micheal Burbidge was taking over the Diocese of Raleigh. Neither were the Modernist priests in the Diocese. When Bishop Burbidge stepped off the plane in Raleigh, a delegation of priests was there to greet him. Their spokesman, a priest stationed at the chancery in Raleigh, stepped up to him and said, "Hello, Michael!" Our new bishop very quietly answered, "Father, I prefer to be addressed as Bishop."

This in itself may seem like no big deal, but under the Roman Protestant Babylonian Captivity of Smilin' Joe... this is truly shocking; a bishop who actually expects to be called "Bishop".

Take my word for it... there are even more stunning episodes from totally trustworthy and unimpeachable sources that I would love to post. Yet alas, I have been asked not to at this time. And I'll respect those requests of anonymity.

Suffice it to say, my 'cautious optimism' over Bishop Burbidge is starting to wane. Traditional-minded Catholics now have real, concrete reasons to be optimistic.

I can verify that for sure.

I know a Priest in the Raleigh Diocese very well, and that is exactly what happened.

I love it!

Those heretics are in for a wakeup call!

From a neighbor in the diocese next door (Charlotte), I am praying for Bishop Burbidge, and for the good shepherding of my family and friends in the Raleigh diocese. The Bishop sure does have his work cut out for him.

I appreciate your updates about what is going on over there. Please continue to keep us posted as you are able!

Can you imagine General Pace landing at Reagan National Airport for a meeting of the Joint Chiefs and some major he never saw before who sent to pick him at the airport greets him with, "Hey Pete, how was the trip?" Can we say "Platoon commander in Diego Garcia?"
God bless your bishop. Let us pray he cracks the whip in some other areas, too.

I think that I have said it before, but Bsp. Burbidge led the Vatican visitation to our Priory and school and I had a personal interview with him. He is straight forward and very very kind. He did not walk around like the big man on campus but was approachable and real. Oh yeah, he is also 100% Catholic and appears to love his life as a sevant and sucessor to the Apostles. The Libbies just hate that!

Gasp! Next thing you know he'll insist people actually go to confession, and that women, in accordance to Holy Tradition and not out of mysogyny, to stay off the altar. Who does he think he is, the Bishop?! ;-)

So, aside from demanding due respect for his title, what else (i.e. what concrete action[s]) has he done do restore Tradition to the church?

G,
Do you mean in the 24 days he's been bishop?

As I posted, "Take my word for it... there are even more stunning episodes from totally trustworthy and unimpeachable sources that I would love to post. Yet alas, I have been asked not to at this time. And I'll respect those requests of anonymity."

When circumstances permit... I'l pass the word.

VSC,

I hope you'll pardon me if I appear somewhat skeptical. The arrival of the new Bishop of Raleigh doesnt fill me with as much enthusiasm as I see it does others. However, I think my skepticism is justified.

Consider: Upon the election of HH Pope Benedict XVI, many traditional Catholics were excited because they considered him someone who was "tradition-friendly" and falsely thought he would "liberate" the Tridentine Mass via an "univeral Indult" or somesuch.

That has not happened.

24 days is plenty of time to give some tangible, visible sign of his intentions. Demanding respect doesnt equate to being a man of tradition: Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse Tung both demanded respect.

I will pray for HE the Bishop of Raleigh and for all the faithful in his diocese that he is in fact a true Catholic and will work towards the restoration of our Catholic faith.

I share in your caution. Let me say this... things are happening. Some small, some not so small.

You're going to have to trust me on this one. In all fairness, this diocese has been in free fall for 31 years. You know, if a house has been destroyed by an earthquake, there are one of two ways to start the clean up;

1. Drop the blade on the bulldozer and hit the gas.

2. Start by picking up the small stuff first.

Personally, I'd do the former. Bp Burbidge is doing the latter. But you know what... at least he's doing SOMETHING!!! (what a nice change of pace for THIS diocese!!)

Vir Spel:

The latter method (clean up the small stuff, work your way up...) is also the approach of Abp. Dolan of Milwaukee.

And he has a LOT OF STUFF to pick up.

Like you, I prefer the "drop blade, hit gas" method (I prefer a chain-gun to all the perps, personally) but here's a key I would watch:

WHERE does he send his seminarians?

The priesthood is the first thing to restore (with a few exceptions, like eliminating white slavery or red-lights over rectory doors...)

See my posts of today; the Abp. of MIlwaukee is beginning to pick up steam (after 5 years.) It's wonderful to see!!
