In a recent interview with Italian news magazine 30 Days, Darío Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos discusses healing the recent unpleasantness with the Society of St. Pius X.
"30 Days Magazine: Do you think they represent the legacy of a past (The Traditional Mass) in any case on the way to extinction?
CASTRILLÓN HOYOS: At the World Day of Youth in Cologne there was a considerable group of young people attached to the Traditional Mass. The echoes have been positive. And it shows how short-sighted it is to consider the traditionalist phenomenon as on the way to exhaustion. Not least because in the traditionalist world, in proportion, the number of priestly vocations is decidedly superior to that of many diocese in the Church. "

Your forgetting about the age old (and I mean OLD!) Catholic teaching on Invincible/Inculpable Ignorance. And it certainly isn't some "Spirit of V2" huggy-touchy nonsense either. The Church has taught I.I. for centuries and centuries.
Just one example; Pius IX’s encyclical, Quanto Conficiamur Moerore (1863), which states, "We all know that those who suffer from invincible ignorance with regard to our holy religion, if they carefully keep the precepts of the natural law which have been written by God in the hearts of all men, if they are prepared to obey God, and if they lead a virtuous and dutiful life, can, by the power of divine light and grace, attain eternal life."
And please keep in mind, this isn'r something that Pope Pius IX made up. I.I. was already well founded.

In a question concerning Father Feeney, Father Pulvermacher, SSPX responed;
A. Yes, he was excommunicated. He was suppressed insofar as some of his teachings were forbidden. He was reconciled before his death, but I heard that he never really gave up his heretical opinions on Baptism and invincible ignorance. He believed that to be saved one must belong to the Catholic Church through Baptism of water only. The Church is the sole means of salvation in the world today—that is true dogma. We hold with the Catholic Church that one can be saved through Baptism of blood, desire, or water, and that there can be invincible ignorance. A non-Catholic can be saved, somehow, but only through the Catholic Church. It is as simple as that.
Now in this day and age of lost souls seeking truth, I can very easily see where Mr. Lost Soul very well may stumble into St. Bozo's parish and run into the DRE, Sister Agnes Polyester, and said Mr. Lost Soul is informed by said nutty nun that Catholicism is nothing more than a blend of wicca, social work, and communism.
Now, I believe that Mr. Lost Soul would probably throw up his hands in disgust and walk away (I know I would). But that begs the question, is Mr. Lost Soul in a state of Invincible Ignorance? I say yes.

I'm not forgetting about anything. I absolutely understand and accept the doctrine of Invincible Ignorance, and I know that it is something that the Church has always taught.
What I am saying is that I think someone who is going to claim the excuse of "Invincible Ignorance" had better be darned sure that he is invincibly ignorant of the fact that the Catholic Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ.
