First You Get Rid Of The Sacramantals...
Then you get rid of the Sacraments
More lunacy out of the Cape Fear Deanery.
A week or so back, I posted of certain parish in this Deanery that went directly against the direction given by The Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments in regards of replacing Holy Water with sand during Lent.
Now I find out that another parish within this Deanery has cancelled ALL Confessions during Holy Week.
I found the following signs posted next to the supply room turned Confessional.
Here is the non-explaination of why so from both the Feb. 28th on-line bulletin, and from today's on-line bulletin;
Reconciliation Times
here at St. Mark
during Lent
Saturdays 3:30-4:30 PM
Tuesdays 5:00-5:45 PM
Thursdays 11:00-11:45 AM
**Although Reconciliation will
still be available at other times by
appointment, please avail
yourselves of the Reconciliation
Services and scheduled times that
we have listed.
There will be
NO CONFESSIONS
during Holy Week
Sure wouldn't want anyone to think that Confession is all that important. Especially right before Easter.

Oh come on Caveman. You know Father is busy ironing his rainbow vestments for Easter!
Confession is the sacrament that nobody wants - yet everybody needs!
Bill,
But at St. Mark's, by appointment only. But only during Holy Week.
Our Penance service is on Saturday, which is a prayer service and they have a ton of priests on duty for individual confessions; of course, it's the Cathedral and they have access to priests from a number of sources.
They had 5 priests on Sat. for confession and will have extra confession times Mar 29-31 when there'll be 3 or 4 priests. During the extra confessions before Christmas, the parochial vicar showed up in his box on his day off. Typically there's one priest on a weekday who does confession and Mass but now they have one priest for each, so the guy in confession can stay.
It probably would have been a better idea to politely ask the pastor to explain why he was cancelling confessions before complaining about it on your blog.
No confessions because there are no sinners in that parish . . . only saints. Yeah right.

FYI - Fr. Zuhlsdorf just linked to the Lair re: this post.
WHAT THE THEOLOGICAL PLACE OF ETERNAL DAMNATION??????????????????????????????
Oh, I get it, since it is "Holy" Week, Father is assuming that everyone will automaticly be holy & thus not in need of going to confession. Sarcasm off!
Dan,
If I could have found him. But that's besides the point. The onus isn't on me to provide a certain Sacrament for the flock (especially right before Easter). It's his.
I can think of NO reasonable explaination why a healthy priest couldn't administer the Sacrament of Confession to his flock during Holy Week. None.
As The Holy Father has stated;
""It is necessary to return to the confessional, noted Benedict XVI, speaking to the participants in the Apostolic Penitentiary's course of formation. The hedonistic and materialistic cultural context is causing a loss of the sense of sin and of the sense of good and evil. Priests, with the example of the holy Cure d'Ars, must guide the faithful courageously, be dedicated to hearing confessions, and establish a dialogue of salvation with the penitents. "
BTW,I spoke with a couple of parishioners there... they had no idea as to why regularly scheduled Confessions were cancelled either. The closest they knew of an explaination was "it's been in the bulletin for the past few weeks".
That's all I need to know. If any given priest is going to cancel one of the Sacraments (unless by appt only!), especially when it's needed the most, and not ensure his flock understands why... then he deserves to be complained about.
I kind of have to agree with Dan--maybe it would have been prudent to ask your priest as to why prior to posting. He may very well have a valid reason.
If he has confessions normally on those days, I'm going to assume that people come. I would also assume they they would come in force on Holy Week. But you know what happens when you assume.
Perhaps, he does not get a turnout and has decided that his time is better spent than sitting in an empty confessional and decided that he will make himself available to those who need it and will do his other priestly duties during that time. (How is THAT for a run on sentence?)
Obviously, I do not know the reasons since I don't attend your parish.
For years the Liturginazis have been working to eliminate confessions during Holy Week. They say that it detracts from the focus. (I know, I know.) There is absolutely no basis for this in the teaching or the discipline of the Church.
Jamie,
I can think of no reason whatsoever as to why a Catholic priest would cancel all scheduled Confessions specifically during Holy Week. It just doesn't wash.
The parish bullten says the church contact # is 910-392-0720.
Those of you who are outraged may wish to show some charity and some backbone by contacting the pastor directly.
Complaining on a blog about it doesn't seem too productive.
What makes you think that hasn't happened? To be frank, I'm fed up with some of the flat-out un-Catholic things done in this Deanery. I'm equally fed-up with complaints (and flat-out "why is this happening?") falling on deaf ears. I'm through 'contacting pastors'. I'm through writing letters to the bishop.
I have every intention in the world of getting things like cancelling Confessions during Holy Week, sand replacing Holy Water, etc, etc, ad nauseum, and doing exactly what those pastors wanted -- letting the world know.
Allow me to be even more frank. Possibly you should know what the hell you're talking about before spouting off.
But anyhow, maybe the pastor in question might show some of the same to his flock. You know... some overt Catholicism? Funny how that never entered your mind. But I'm not really all that suprised.
By the way Dan, if you don't like this blog or what I post on it, you're certainly welcome to never come back. You're really just not all that important to me. Really.
Speaking of unproductive, so is your weak attempt at a dig at me. Consider it your last.
Have a happy day.
Well, I have to Adeo, that as there is no sin since Vat2, there really is no need for confession.....not.
More seriously, when do cultural Catholics come to Mass? Easter and Christmas. Catholics have a duty to confess their sins at least once a year and to receive Holy Communion during Eastertide. If the holiest day of the Christian year is enough to draw even these minimal Catholics, why would anyone deny them confession, assuming they really desire to worthily receive Our Lord in the Eucharist. And don't tell me this type of Catholic is going to make an appointment at the rectory or wherever the priests in that deanery hole up at night. No, these are kind of sinners, if they come at all, will want to sneak in and attempt to blend in with all the others.
And, Dan and Jamie, go read Matt. 7:1 (that's the gospel of St. Matthew, cahpter 7, verse 1.) You are very quick to defend a pastor who clearly is doing something outside the desire of Rome and yet very quick to judge Vir.
What I want to know, is there any loyal Catholic in that area who has called the bishop to ask what in the hell (it certainly isn't heavenly..ask Our Lady of Akita) is going on.
St Paul, I recall, teaches us to "resist the devil and he will flee". This cannot be done by hiding from the devil. Jesus teaches us that if we be silenced then the rocks on the ground will cry out the glory of God. The Sistine Chapel is not exactly a demonstration teaching the faithful to be silent. The liturgical garb is not exactly a statement moving people to ignore the Church. God on occasion lights up the sky with fireworks so colossal that they keep glowing for thousands of years. Jesus is the "Word of God", not the silence of God. There is a half hour of silence in Heaven ... not much by comparing that stretch to eternity. Who wants to silence the voice of God, ie His Church? Why? Who of the faithful has bought into the ruse?
I apologize if I wasn't fully sentitive to the past frustrations you've experienced with your parish and deanery. Remember, no matter what, *no one* can take away your faith. - Dan
"Remember, no matter what, *no one* can take away your faith." Thank you, Dan. Maybe that's why I'm so frustrated. I'm fed-up with seeing Holy Mother Church raped on a daily basis around here.
Have I ever told you about the "priest" who stated from the pulpit "during WWII, our own Church did nothing against the Nazis!!"? Oh, he was currently convicted of child molestation.
Or of a "Catholic" elementary school where they put on their reading list, an 'childrens' author who's boasted "my books are about killing God!". Should I even bring up another "Catholic" school where they were face painting Obama symbols on the kiddies faces?
Or best of all, a sermon where "retarded" was the punch line? (http://catholic-caveman.blogspot.com/2008/01/when-retarded-becomes-punch-line.html)
Is it any wonder I drive over 150 miles a week to attend the Traditional Latin Mass?
Anyhow, I didn't mean to launch into you (well, yes I did *evil grin*), but as you've pointed out already, the frustration (and disgust) level is pretty high here.
In the past, I've done all the 'right steps'. Not any more. From here on out, it's spiritual guerrilla warfare.
Is it any wonder I drive over 150 miles a week to attend the Traditional Latin Mass?
Well, Cavey, you ought to move to Albuquerque, NM. (They sometimes let U.S. Marines migrate to New Mexico, if they have a good enough reason. LOL ) From where I live, I can drive either 3 or 4 miles to the TLM.
The closest TLM to my house is Our Lady, Queen of Peace Chapel (8:30 AM on Sundays). The same "TLM only priest" also celebrates the former Indult mass, now the EF, at San Ignacio Church in the Martineztown neighborhood (12 Noon on Sundays). Thanks to Queen of Peace Chapel, you can attend the TLM on a daily basis--held at various times during the week: 6 am or 8:30 am (sometimes at 8 am) or 6 pm. This gives just about everybody the opportunity to attend mass on at least one day of the week by accommodating the schedules of working folks and moms with their young children.
Confessions are held before ALL masses. There is none of that appointment nonsense! Also, none of this fasting from the sacraments inanity during Lent. And the only sand you can see exists outside the Church!
PreVat2 ought to appreciate this: Fr. Alberto Gonzales graduated from that seminary in Argentina (SSPX) and has a huge portrait of Apb. Lefevbre in the sacristy of his chapel. He is a big, tall Texan who looks like a bouncer in a bar, but has a huge, infectious smile. Nothing effeminate about him. I would not want to get into a brawl with him.
AND he is in union with the Apb. of Santa Fe who approves / authorizes masses at the chapel and, naturally, at San Ignacio, a mission parish of the Archdiocese. Don't ask me to explain this "arrangement." I can't. I am also not asking questions! LOL
The good thing about unfettered access to the TLM for me is that I no longer get pissed off royally from witnessing the occasional egregious behavior during mass, and my overall mood is much improved, except of course, when I enter the Cave and read about another bit of nonsense going on at the Cape Fear Deanery or elsewhere! *big grin* & *big frown*
Correction: His name is Fr. CARLOS Gonzales, not Alberto.
Hey Champ,
Not reletive to the question above, but I didn't know how to give this info to you. Enjoy:
Hats off to Marine Corpsman Kevin Hiltunen, who showed bravery and courage in the face of a "Go ahead and stop me" leftist punk. Don't just stand there , DO SOMETHING. I didn't see this on the news. and I didn't see Corpsman Hiltunen making a Youtube about his patriotism........ But I did see the misguided OWS Marine EVERYWHERE, Network News, Youtube, CNN.... Funny how that is, don't ya think?
As Patriots, we are the last stand, the few, the proud, the true Americans, and it is on us to protect and defend when no one else is willing......Semper Fi my Brothers ! PS Happy Marine Corps Birthday belated ( Nov. 10th )
Ex-Marine Tosses Occupy Heckler From Congressman’s Swearing-in
Posted on November 14, 2011 at 11:51am by Buck Sexton
One Wall Street Occupier messed with the wrong marine on Sunday, and got a little taste of the sidewalk sandwich as a result.

The New York Post sets the scene at newly-elected Congressman Bob Turner’s swearing in ceremony at a Queens school:
“Adam Weissman, 33, of Astoria, was one of three demonstrators to disrupt Turner’s local swearing-in ceremony at Metropolitan High School in Forest Hills. Turner won the congressional seat once held by disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner by defeating Assemblyman David Weprin.”
But the heckler was only able to get out a few words before Kevin Hiltunen of Brooklyn grabbed him by the scruff of his jacket and booted him out to the curb.
Hiltunen was identified by the Post as an ex-Marine and ex-NYPD officer.
“I guess you could say I sorted him out,” Hiltunen said, ”All I was doing was trying to stop this historic occasion from being disrupt-ed. There is a time and place to exercise your First Amendment rights.”
“This was not the time or the venue.”
You can get the rest of Hiltunen’s story and his thoughts on the Occupy movement here, courtesy of the NY Post.
NEVER SCREW WITH THE MARINES!
