Jenkins re-elected as Notre Dame president
By MARGARET FOSMOE
Tribune Staff Writer

SOUTH BEND — The Rev. John I. Jenkins today was re-elected to a second five-year term as president of the University of Notre Dame, the university announced this afternoon.

Jenkins, who became Notre Dame's president in July 2005, currently is in the final year of his first term. The re-election decision was made by Notre Dame's board of trustees, who met on campus Thursday and today.

After demonstrations last spring over Jenkins' decision to invite President Barack Obama to be commencement speaker, despite Obama's pro-choice stance on abortion, some observers wondered whether Jenkins might be in danger of a short-lived presidency.

The trustees issued no public statement or show of support for Jenkins during the controversy last spring.

At least the football team fell out of the Top 25.

Who are these judaserrr...trustees?

Poor Fr.Jenkins needs a rubber rosary so he can't hurt himself or those around him. But the very notion of an organized mob operatin under the moniker of being "trustees" is kinda scary.

If their agenda is "more of the same" at Notre Dame then all the more reason for public revilement of that grand old school and the boss of the Holy Cross order to whom Fr. Jenkins is obedient.

"My mother drunk or sober" as GKC said.

I guess this means that ND is a secular univ., not a religious one.

I went to a secular (women's) college, and we basically got, excuse me, bent over a barrel by our board of trustees. All the while they were reassuring us of one thing, they were doing another. We went to fight them in court and we lost. I hope to God that Notre Dame does not lose a similar battle.

A secular univ. with a Basilica, a Marian grotto and a chapel in every dorm building and a 10 story high picture of Jesus on the side of the library overlooking the football stadium???
Strange days indeed!
Send for the exorcist, lads!

ND football will never return to its formal winning ways until they abandon dissent with Mary's Church. She is not happy with this mess and has been made a long time. Look for touchdown Jesus to turn his back on them for a long time.

Greta,
How true -- and even better that since that Obama fiasco so many donors have cut off the money that helped pay for football scholarships. May their place in the standings fall even further so they stop getting TV money when no one will televise their sorry team.

I remember some analysis back when President Obama was issued the invitation, that basically said that Fr. Jenkins was the Board of Trustees' creature, doing well their bidding.

Does anybody know how the trustees are selected? I know that in MI, trustees of many universities are elected in general elections.
