Profiles in Personal Courage or....
Things that the USCCB should learn for $200 Alex
I think that it is high time that we all come to grips with the reality that the USCCB no longer serves the Holy Roman Catholic Church. There are far too many committees and such that allow most of our leadership to avoid personal responsibility and adherence to Mother Church.
Committees by nature are a cowards tool. Typically a committee is put together so that some idea, belief, or program can be pushed forward with anonymity. Every time I have been placed on a committee in my professional life we always knew the conclusion we were supposed to come to before we even discussed the topic. The USCCB is just one giant committee, allowing each cowardly member to support what they know is wrong, and provide the cover they need to say "look I am just one person what can I do." COWARDICE!
Vir Speluncae Catholicus is right, this is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. There is absolutely no way that any of these Bishops can support or keep quiet about what is going on in this country right now with health care, government ownership of private companies, making a grab for student loan market, and now the abandonment of Poland and other Eastern European nation states. This administration is clearly Communist, a form of government that is very hostile to the Catholic Church. Our leaders in the USCCB are so compromised from feeding at the trough of government, and very infiltrated by the communists themselves that they will not act as a group.
What is the solution? I am not certain, for one I would really like to see our Holy Father forcefully disband it. For all you nut jobs out there that say this would only make American Catholics abandon the Church I say, GOOD! Do so at your own peril. I hold out hope that many might see the right road if that happens. How many times do we have to be shown when the light shines the cockroaches flee! Just look what is happening to ACORN right now. All because two young people decided they were going to do something! Having a little personal courage.
Which brings up another embarrassing point, yes the USCCB has been involved with ACORN. Our donations to the Church have made it to this horrid organization. Have you heard any mea culpa's from any of those Catholic institutions? Nope. Any outrage over the willingness of ACORN to assist in the potential abuse of underage girls? Nope. Any dire warnings from Bishops around country that if anyone is caught having any connections with ACORN that it would be finito for that person regardless of the reason. Nope.
It takes personal courage to fight evil, and a whole lot of it. This personal courage cannot be garnered while hiding in a committee or a "Conference". I pray for the end of this organization and for the Holy Father to force these men to take up their mantle independently so we can all see who and what they are then offer our support to those that fight for Mother Church, and then give the rest a swift kick in the butt to get their courage together and fight with us!

Concur. I have put forth the argument elsewhere several times with no response nor even any reaction, that the bishops advocate the programs which bring the flow of govt money through their hands, and do nothing significant to programs that have no govt money. Social programs have govt money; anti-abortion programs have no govt money. Where are the bishops in fact, not just in words? Their actions are with the money, and not with stopping abortion. As for what govts should do, the bishops do not recognize the fact that secular govts may have demonic roots or they may have merely pagan roots. None today has Christian roots ... well this might be parallel with our Congress which allows a token few true Catholics, but not enough to alter the devil's plans. Jesus appointed a particular individual man to head His Church, and not some vague collection of documents or committees. In union with this man, there are other individual men who neither are stacks of files on how to run things or committees. Where are these men? We can see them and shake hands with them ... but where are they? Now this question is not a concrete question, but a mystical question: Many wonder the same thing; yet many others celebrate the fact because they're trapped in the money flow. How much money does it take to send one of these committee members flying and hoteling to and fro? What is accomplished? Abortion not only rages but increases. Should many clerics be kicked in the butt to get them going? Hah, with the scandals of our time many of these would relish the thought ... which is sad, but everyone knows it. I believe that God is waiting for us to shape up, before He arranges corrective measures. The Church, when the day is done, continually informs us that matters in this world will get far worse ... Since the Church is appointed to rule the world, and the world is getting worse, then what do we suppose is going to happen to the Church before the tide turns? For example, for this nation to abandon Poland, the only Catholic nation to defeat her Communist captors says what? They sent in the walking garbage pit, who calls herself by the name of God's Mother, and she was protested by good faithfull Poles ... now this commie demonic govt strips Poland of its military defense ... the Allies did this during WWII to the free Polish troops, and they have done it to other Church championing armies and nations. Why? The bishops do not only not answer these questions, but they obscure them. Any serious issue gets an episcopal hydra babbling to the public. Today the Church places her most fervent bishops in remote and out of the way places ... St Paul on the other hand was placed in the absolute center of the battles, and that created Catholic civilization, the Christian West. It is so clear. As the Church weakens in resolve, and the enemy gets more bold and bald faced, the "lambs" tremble and hide as if Pentacost never happened. The Chamberlains of the Church seem to be running the show today, while the faithful clamor for Christ to step forth from where He is hidden. Classic problem, classic solution; but few want to do the math and fewer want to stand up for the answer.
Excellent analysis Simplex Vir. This would also apply to the CCCB (Canada).
We need to pray. Hard. That and just plain ignore the USCCB and no longer give them any of our time or attention.
We could even write to the USCCB and demand that they disband. We wouldn't be disrespecting the *Bishops* ~ but disagreeing with the *organization*. Don't we have the right to do that?
How could we organize a campain where we Catholics each write to the USCCB and say, in much more eloquent terms, "Time to disband yourselves! The USCCB is a coward's response to the problems of the world. The USCCB has done far more harm then good. etc. etc., We're no longer giving the USCCB the time of day!"
I'll even write from Scotland!!!
P.S. Patriotic Americans are having Tea Parties. (I'm there in spirit...) And my goodness is the world sitting up and taking notice!
So... what kind of protests can faithful Catholics have that will get in the press and put serious pressure on the USCCB?
