Following atheist trend, Britons seek 'de-baptism'

More than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded "certificates of de-baptism" from the Internet to renounce their Christian faith.
The initiative launched by a group called the National Secular Society (NSS) follows atheist campaigns here and elsewhere, including a London bus poster which triggered protests by proclaiming "There's probably no God." (boy...now there's one argument you better be right about!)
"We now produce a certificate on parchment and we have sold 1,500 units at three pounds (4.35 dollars, 3.20 euros) a pop," said NSS president Terry Sanderson, 58.
John Hunt, a 58-year-old from London and one of the first to try to be "de-baptised," held that he was too young to make any decision when he was christened at five months old.
The male nurse said he approached the Church of England to ask it to remove his name. "They said they had sought legal advice and that I should place an announcement in the London Gazette," said Hunt, referring to one of the official journals of record of the British government.
So that's what he did -- his notice of renouncement was published in the Gazette in May 2008 and other Britons have followed suit.
Michael Evans, 66, branded baptising children as "a form of child abuse" -- and said that when he complained to the church where he was christened he was told to contact the European Court of Human Rights. ...

It's language like what I highlighted which keeps me from dismissing crap like this as just another limp-wrist, drama queen, hissy fit snit. I'm sure there is an agenda driven group somewhere, poised to jump on an angle like this and defend any baby being presented for Baptism as an ACLU lawyer would defend a guest at Gitmo from a date with a waterboard.

You know, if it wasn't a moral evil, my capitalistic little soul might try and you know... capitalize on their stupidity. One heck of a way to pay off my debt.
But then there is that whole moral evil thing.
A more traditional word for "de-baptism" may be "apostasy."

people were once willing to pay for pet rocks.....and that was hardly serious.

Oh btw, the ACLU isn't going to be there for you. Hmmmm...
If they don't believe in it, why are they so hot to prove they were supposedly never baptized? Why should it matter? And the answer is, they want to be noticed. They want attention. They want society to tell them how clever and sophisticated they are.
They know it isn't child abuse, any more than potty training is child abuse, but by calling it so, they can immediately be heard in the press and the public.
What a bunch of children, and not in the sense that Jesus meant. I do pity them at Judgment, and I suppose we should pray for the conversion of their little tiny stone hearts, but they do make it difficult, they do.
Doesn't matter. In extreme circumstances, anyone can perform a baptism and if the UN or some other anti-Christian body decides baptising babies is now a crime against humanity, well screw 'em.
I always keep holy water at home and the Japanese Catholics who were underground for two centuries got by by baptising one another in secret.
My kids. My faith. My right to raise them in said faith. Given by God so no stinkin' ACLU lawyer is taking that from me.
