Interesting Goings On In The Diocese Of Raleigh
Hope for Traditionalists?

Isn't it kind of crazy to spend 4 hours driving time for an hour and a half High Mass? Yeah... but it's worth it.

And maybe, just maybe, the treks are coming to an end. You see, it was announced at Mass Sunday that our parish priest, Fr. Parkerson, has been given the additional responsibility as the bishop's official "delegate" for all things Traditional in keeping with Summorum Pontificum.

I'm not sure what all the in's and out's are as of yet, but from my understanding, Father Parkerson is essentially His Excellency's point man on all things SP.

Could this be light at the end of the tunnel? I just hope it isn't a train bearing down on us.

The track record of SP in the Cape Fear Deanery has been (shall I say) "confusing" at best. We had one priest who celebrated the TLM every Sunday... after 2 weeks of that, he was transferred to the other side of the diocese. A few months later, we had a different priest here who celebrated the TLM every fourth Sunday, as well as every Wednesday evening. That lasted for a handful of months, then he got transferred.

In the meantime, we "Latin Massers" have had the predictable responses from the well-entrenched non- (and sometimes anti-) Traditional Mass clerics here in this particular Deanery. The words "screw" and "you" come to mind.

So we Traddies, literally from ages 9 - 90, will continue to drive I-40 and country roads to make it to Sacred Heart for Mass. Hey, I should consider myself lucky. I only had to dodge a head-on collision (at 60 MPH) JUST ONCE, and swerved out of the way of being sideswiped on the interstate (at 75 MPH) JUST ONCE yesterday. My defensive driving skills and sense of self-preservation amaze me.

*Sigh* Maybe when someone gets killed, that will be the catalyst for the artificial shortage of TLM trained priest(s) in this Deanery to come to an end.

And the seminarians! Advising the seminarians is the best part about it!

Of course, the priest at Newman won't offer a TLM, and the idea of organizing a letter-writing campaign when I know Fr. Parkerson will be reading those letters is just DELICIOUS. (And wrong and my attitude is wrong, I know, but STILL.)

I went from Latin Mass Catholic to obligatory Mass catholic. I went from having a son willingly serving at the altar of the Lord during the Latin Mass to worshipping with Stairway to Heaven strummers. It's enough to make you doubt.

My son has been in Catholic school since 1st grade, now that he is almost graduated from 8th it couldn't be to soon. Staff members screaming at McCain supporters that Right to Life issues don't matter and fund raisers for the Parish and School that include Obama face painting booths. You tell me what we're supposed to do and think. How about if we all go to PPXS? Are they the ones that should be excommunicated? Or the ones running the 'big show' here?

I had to leave California and move a thousand miles away to find tradition. Well worth the trek on many levels.

I drive about half hour to my parish in Alhambra for my Traddie fix. It shouldn't have to be that way...let us pray for priests who will offer the TLM

I've notified the diocese about the egregiously long time one would have to drive to attend at TLM. I even said in my note "At very least, can we not have a parish around here that does the English NO in a traditional and dignified manner?" The Diocese responded that they were aware of the problem and they were working on it, but did not mention anything specific. The new priests at St. Marks seem very nice, but that alone probably will not translate into having a TLM.
