News from the U. S. Bishops, Whoever They Are
Laity as clerics... Clerics as laity
Simply excellent article by Dr. Jeff Mirus in CatholicCulture.org
Just one excerpt:
"Three controversial issues surfaced at the U.S. Bishops’ November meeting in Washington: the death penalty, the rejection of Church teaching by Catholic politicians, and liturgical translations. All three are important; one would also think they are fairly straightforward. Yet the bishops clearly have no clue how to handle any of them, apparently because they don’t understand their own identity. Who are the bishops, anyway?"
A somewhat short article... but as subtle as a napalm run.

Yes, for some time I've been saying, "Who are these guys, anyway?" Most of the U.S. bishops don't even know what their job descriptions are.
Well, of course they dont know who they are. Afterall, what defines them? What is their identity? For which principles do they stand? What is their heritage?
The sad fact of the matter is that most if not all post-Conciliar bishops are not defending the traditional Faith. They are defending the post-Vatican II, modernistic *interpretation* of ambiguously-worded, non-binding documents issued as a result of a pastoral council which did not clarify any pre-existing doctrines.
Which means, of course, that they are defending everything and nothing at the same time. As a Catholic, you just cant do this.
A Catholic -- especially a Catholic bishop -- is supposed to stand in opposition to error. I.e., to defend what is right and denounce everything that is wrong. And the standard of what is right and what is wrong is the Faith as taught by our Lord and transmitted through his Apostles and their successors the Bishops, unchanged, down through the present day.
The problem is that almost everything changed after Vatican II.
Now, everyone's "faith" (true, false or otherwise) is sorta right and it really doesnt matter if you join the Catholic church because -- joy of joys! -- the new church is just like everyone else! Yeah! You want a neo-Protestantesque, God-damned raise-your-hands-to-Jesus hootenanny? There's one out there for you! You want a clown to give you communion? You can have that, too! You want a girl to hand you your communion cookie? Presto! "Lay Ecclesiastical Ministers" and "Ministerettes"! You want a rock band? You want a dead tree? Gospel music? It's all there.
You can have whatever you want *and* be Catholic. Well, you really cant, but so sayeth the post-Conciliar Church.
Some might not go so far as to say it, but that is what is being done.
Is there no wonder that Fr. Polesmoker is buggering Little Johnny and his buddies? Why not? Afterall, what is the definition of Right and Wrong anymore? The Faith? Where? Which Faith?
Similarly, it comes as no surprise to me that Bp. Lostinthesauce doesnt know what to defend. All he knows is that we traditionalists are Wrong, but he's not really sure why. He just blathers on about obedience to the Pope as if that meant obedience to every single one of his personal, non-infallible opinions.
Of course, there have been extremely rare occasions where the modernin Popes who have tried to exert their authority in defence of some vestigial remnant of the true Faith. And what happened? The bishops ignore him! So much for obedience.
Semper fidelis
