The only way to look at these guys is not so much like "talking heads," which they are, but as entertainers, "personalities," and failed comedians (they really aren't funny, but they are sort of like black, comedy in their fatuousness).
There may have been a profession of journalism at one time--perhaps restricted to the print media--but it doesn't really exist to a great extent in the visual media any more, if it ever existed in the first place.
