St. Gabriel Possenti, Patron Saint Of Gun Owners...
Ora pro nobis
Helemt tip to my buddy, Former Altar Boy, for forwarding this e-mail to me.

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

A few points to ponder;

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle."

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did. She said "Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!" To which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!" She then asked, "Are you that afraid of someone evil coming into your house?" My reply was, "No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.." To which I'll add, having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.

  2. "CANON"????????

    ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually St. Gabriel Possnti hasn't officially been declared the padrone of Handgun Owners, but there is an effort underway: http://www.possentisociety.com/

Interestingly enough it was the last Benedict (XV) who did canonize him. Maybe this 1 will officially give him the job.

Meanwhile, St. Gabriel, give the Supreme Court the wisdom they need to rightly rule on the 2nd Amendment case before & uphold the right to bear arms. (& bear arms with bare arms if they so desire.;) )

  4. According to Father Z [20 November 2007], Pope Pius XI (a real man, and a real priest), got himself a gun when he was Prefect of the Ambrosian Library in Milan "as a deterrant to keep off possible miscreants". He was shooting at Mafiosi - even if he probably was not trying to kill! It probably wouldn't do for a 20th century Pope to have confirmed kills. Although it would probably do wonders for obedience in the Church. Then he took it to the Vatican Library, following which, when made Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, he smuggled it into the country in the diplomatic bag. "Raptim transit" - "It goes by quickly" was his Papal motto. Some people say "speak softly and carry a big stick". IIRC Pius XI was not exactly known for speaking softly. He was more of a "speak bluntly and carry a small revolver in the Tiara" kind of guy.

I also believe that Leo XIII upset the curia by shooting small birds in one of the Vatican gardens.

Anyway, I've just given you a week's worth of comments in one day. Gotta go.

  5. Aunty Belle is right. Isn't it one of the criteria of the Just War doctrine that you've gotta have some probability of success before you take up arms. You've got to be in it to win it, otherwise the whole shebang is a sinful waste of time. You don't kill people without a bloody good reason, and when you do, you make good and sure you kill 'em good.
