Leave It To The USCCB To Have Their Priorities Screwed Up...
Again
This comes from the same bunch who won't do a damn thing of substance against alleged "Catholics" who support unborn babies being slaughtered. I guess excommunication is out of the question.
But actually arresting those who've broken the law is now "inhumane". What's really inhumane is the wink and a nod the USCCB has given to the likes of Pelosi, Biden, Giuliani, Kerry and Schwarzenegger.
Here's some of the article from the Catholic News Agency; (Emphasis mine)Catholic bishops call for end to ‘inhumane’ worksite ICE raids
Speaking at a press conference in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, several Catholic bishops questioned the effectiveness and humaneness of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and called for them to be abandoned.
John Wester, Bishop of Salt Lake City, said the present is “a dark period in our country on the issue of immigration.” After the failure of the immigration reform bill in Congress last year, he argued, there has been an “unprecedented emphasis on enforcement-only initiatives.” The bishop charged that these initiatives are “designed to create an atmosphere of fear in immigrant communities,” and constitute a policy of “deportation by attrition.”
He emphasized that the bishops did not question the right of the government to enforce immigration laws, but questioned whether worksite raids are effective and “most importantly, humane.”
Bishop Wester explained that he had witnessed the consequences of such raids first-hand, which he said include the disruption of communities, the separation children who are U.S. citizens from their parents, and the removal of minor children’s primary caregivers.
“We call upon President Bush and the Department of Homeland Security to reconsider the use of worksite enforcement raids,” he said, asking the government to “please abandon them” if human rights protections can’t be implemented. Such bullshit. Someone remind our valiant bishops that the ICE agents wouldn't have to resort to worksite raids if they very same people arrested hadn't broken the law to begin with.
Their pew-based pandering is disgusting.

I've said it before but I'll say it again: they are a disgrace to the uniform.
Exactly! why reward those who break the law? It's just like giving the spoiled child everything they want...either way we're paying for it.
'Inhumane Raids"? Like the ones that busted the meat packing plants for using child labor--illegal immigrant child labor? In a dirty and hazardous industry?
An interesting position.
It used to be the Church actively supported unionization of workers as part of the effort for social justice. As illegal immigration is pretty well documented as having adverse impact on unions, it's interesting that the Church has taken this position. Also, as illegal immigration breeds major violations of worker beneficial laws and regulatios (including but not limited to child labor), the Church consistently fails to condemn those practices.
The cynic in me thinks that, with the native population disapproving of bishop performance during the recent scandals, the bishops are looking at boosting their power base another way. They look at the illegal migrants (most of whom are at least normanily Catholic) as a potential for regaining their status.
I wonder is they would be as supportive to the detriment of the American worker if the migrants were Druids.
Remember that pew survey that said that Catholicism is still the largest denomination in the US, and stated the huge statistic of former Catholics?
That same survey found that the biggest reason Catholicism remains afloat is from immigration, most likely illegal.
The bishops know this. They won't bite the hand that feeds.
That's why you have bishops from Mahony to Chaput denouncing any immigration plan that's anything less than amnesty.
Cavey,
I'm currently traveling, so I'm in a hotel, reading your ever powerful blog in their "Business Room" over a cup of coffee. I tell you this because I am pissed as can be over this one. Once again, those rat-ass bastards of the U.S. Conference of Confused Bishops have a problem with my nation's law enforcement folks ENFORCING the LAW, but won't do a damn thing about those "Catholic" politicians who support infanticide? Are you shitting me??? Damn those men. Damn them to Hell!
P.S. The coffee just kicked in!
Semper Fi
In one of the latest raids it was discovered that one meat packing plant had 12 year olds working and not just working, they were on the meat cutter saws. That's an incredibly dangerous job and somebody actually gives it to a kid? Disgusting. As for families being split up they can all certainly reunite back home in their own country. The bishops had jack to say about the homosexual scandals but in an effort to fill the pews( gee, your eminence, why are American Catholics drifting away?) they support breaking the law.
