We’re Big Enough to Admit When We’re Wrong
Cavemen want to get it right.

Diogenes challenged some statements I posted (see two posts below) that attributed statements as being quotes of Barack Hussein Obama. He checked and I admit some of them are not accurate quotes. I extracted them from an investment newsletter I was given and apologize if anyone was misled. We, here at the Cave, are generally pretty good about providing the source for our material and I dropped the ball.

Obama did not say he “found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my [white] mother's race.”

The purported quote is actually a paraphrase of from a magazine article by Steve Sailer, who wrote (my emphsis):
In reality, Obama provides a disturbing test of the best-case scenario of whether America can indeed move beyond race. He inherited his father’s penetrating intelligence; was raised mostly by his loving liberal white grandparents in multiracial, laid-back Hawaii, where America’s normal race rules never applied; and received a superb private school education. And yet, at least through age 33 when he wrote Dreams from My Father, he found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against his mother’s race.

Sailer’s conclusion is, no doubt, correct; my claiming Obama said it was not.

The purported quote: "I will stand with the Muslims should the political wind shift in an ugly direction." -Barack Hussein Obama (from his book Audacity of Hope) is actually a paraphrase from page 261, in which BO wrote:

"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

The reader can interpret that any number of ways.

The purported quote from Thomas Sowell was also in accurate. While the gist may be a synopsis of various articles by him, the statement was not.

With that said, let Cave visitors rest assured that we haven’t changed our opinion about the chameleon rock star rookie Senator makes John Kerry’s flipflops seems like the Rock of Gibraltar. Both ways on pulling out of Iraq, both ways on the actual meaning of the Second Amendment, and the most recent, both ways on off-shore drilling. He is, however, firmly consistent on his belief that infants can be killed in the womb, and even when everything but their head has been delivered.
