WARNING!!! VSC is in a particularly foul mood over this posting. If anyone thinks I'm being blasphemous at any point, that's not my intention. I do, however, satirize in a course fashion, the way the Roman Protestants have censored The Stations of The Cross, and what some of their ulterior motives very well may be. If harsh sarcasm isn't your cup of tea, I suggest you pass on this post.
Well class, as you've already been told, the upcoming World Youth Day will feature a Stations of The Cross devotion that will be almost cut in half. Refer to the handout I've provided from The Catholic News;Stations of Cross updated for WYD

In a bid to ensure the World Youth Day Stations of the Cross will not incite anti-Semitic feelings and appeal to all Christians, organisers have dropped six traditional stations which have no scriptural foundation.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports the Church has changed one of its most popular devotions and a landmark event of World Youth Day to take account of the sensitivities of Jews and draw other Christian denominations into its youth celebrations.
In the Catholic tradition the Stations of the Cross, the depiction of the final hours of Jesus Christ, features 14 scenes including the fall of Jesus three times, but only eight stations have scriptural foundation.
To make the event more appealing to all Christians, a Vatican approved scriptural version, founded entirely on passages from the New Testament, will be adopted when it is staged in the streets of Sydney on July 18. As many of you know, we here at the Roman Protestant Church of Australia, specifically here at To Hell With Maria University, have always denounced that so-called "Sacred Tradition" that's so infected Romanism.
The Papists have been playing fast and loose with the final hours of Jesus for only a few short years of their history.... well, I take that back: since the 1300's. But at least we here at TRPCoA know that 6 of the 8 "Stations" aren't Scripturally based!! Well, I take that back: 4 of the 6 are prophesied in the Old Testament, and the other 2 are alluded to rather strongly in the New Testament.
BUT NONE OF THAT MATTERS!!! Like I said, we don't believe in "Sacred Tradition", that is unless we make it up as we go along. After all, you can't spell Protestant without protest!
Anyhow, here's the recommendation I'm making for the censored 6 Stations, and replacing them with more convergence, ecumenically-friendly episodes for us to contemplate --Station II - Delete Christ Carries His Cross. OK, so the Bible doesn't specifically state that Jesus actually carried it Himself. Good enough for me! Replace this with Jesus Carries Around A Copy Of The Book Of Mormon, And Bothers The Hell Out Of His Neighbors. Disregard Mt 27: 30-31.
Station III - Delete Jesus Falls For The First Time, and replace it with Jesus Falls And Kisses The Asses Of The Jews. Forget about Is 53: 4-6
Station IV - Delete Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother, and replace it with Jesus Meets With The Liturgical Committee. Make sure the hymn sung at this particular station is Cole Porter's "Anything Goes". Pay no attention to Lk 2: 34-35, 51
Station VI - Delete St Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus, and replace it with Jesus Tries To Wipe Out Racism And Strive For Social Justice. Hey, there's only so much He can do. After all... He's only human. Oops! Did I just say that!!?? Anyhoo, blow off Is 53: 2-3
Station VII - Delete Jesus Falls For The Second Time, and replace it with Jesus Falls And Kisses The Asses Of The Moslems. Put this one in cold storage for 600 years. It'll come in handy eventually. No need for Lam 3: 1-2,9,16
Station IX - Delete Jesus Falls For The Third Time, and replace it with Jesus Falls And Kisses The Asses Of Protestants. Put this one in cold storage for 1,500 years. After all, we Protties need this one to justify our entire reason for being. Ignore Lam 3: 27-32 On a serious note, I recently had a discussion with a non-Catholic (Protestant) acquaintance. He made the comment "I love the way your Pope John Paul shaped your Church for over 20 years!", to wit, I queried "WHY!?"
His answer was more of an indictment --- "Because he made you more like us".

I think World Youth Day is totally stupid to begin with and THIS IS EXACTLY WHY!!! It's nothing more then a big wide gaping hole that allows all sorts of anti-Catholic bull-(cue unladylike word here) that caters to "all Chrisitans" and doesn't offend all those poooooor sensative "other faiths."
Wait a minute. Bull-(cue unladylike word here) is actually good stuff. We use it to fertilize our fields. I shouldn't insult it by using it to describe WYD...
**RIPPING HAIR OUT** Pope Benedict should wipe WYD off the face of the planet!!
"Because he made you more like us".
That is exactly why he was a heretic and miserable failure as a pontiff, and that is why I want nothing to do with the Vatican 2 church.
VSO,
Easily manipulated, easliy led around by the nose, weak... I think those descriptive phrases work, but not heretic.
VSO, I agree with VSC -- whatever his shortcomings, I believe his very accessibility was his greatest curse AND blessing - while we've got no shortage of chaff clogging things up, his witness has sown plenty of good strong wheat, too. B16, God willing, will be the gardener. I sure wish we saw some evidence of the promised pruning going on, though...
VSC, this is one of the reasons why I admire you. You do not back down nor do you want your church to back down one iota.
I see such acts as compromise and it's not a good thing. Why should Rome bend over in hopes of attracting those of other faiths? From my observation, those who have "crossed the Tiber" have done so because they saw Catholicism as having something their Protestant churches lacked. There was an attraction they could not deny.
As for Jewish people, even Rosalind Moss (who was born and raised a Jew and converted to Catholicism) said she regretted the prayer for the Jewish people being taken out. As she shared with a friend who is Jewish, "We pray for you. Do you ever pray for us?"
What a great point.
Why the heck did I convert to Catholicism if it is going to become a glorified sect of Protestantism?
This wonderful article is a shinning example of why I love Traditional Catholicism vice this New Age ecumenical nonsense Catholics have been feed since the late 1960s. This decision by Australian bishops with, it would seem, the approval of Rome, to change the Stations of the Cross, so as not to offend our Jewish, Protestant, and non-Christian “friends,” is appalling!
Unbelievable! But this is what we have come to expect in our bizarre post-Vatican Church. To say that certain parts of the Stations are not directly found in the New Testament (and therefore we won’t use them) is to trample into the mud every aspect of Sacred Tradition that makes up the Deposit of Faith. So, let me fully understand: Sacred Scripture AND Sacred Tradition, as interpreted by the Magisterium, no longer equals Divine Revelation? Uh, interesting. I must have gotten off at the wrong bus stop?
Folks, where will this end?? First we were given the New Mass in 1969, which was (and is) radically different from what the fathers of the Council thought they were signing on to in 1963 (Sacrosanctum Concilium). Next, just about every sacrament (instituted by Christ) was simplified, until it lost most of its beauty. Next we had not one, but two “Prayer Meetings at Assisi” (1986 & 2001) in which Pope John Paul II openly prayed with every schismatic, heretic, non-believer and pagan leader around the world. What did that do? It gave the impression to millions that ALL religions are equal, and are equally able to offer salvation for mankind. What? Did I miss something??
Next came the never ending appeasement to the Jews. Even our great Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, re-wrote the Good Friday Prayer in the Extraordinary form of the Roman Rite (although he kept it with in the traditional Catholic understanding of salvation). And now this. Changing the Stations of the Cross so as not to offend the Jews, Protestants, and other non-Catholics.
If my children were old enough to attend this event, they would NOT do it on my dime. Not now, not ever!
I love the Sarcastic stations of the Cross
On a more serious note, would it not be more charitable for us to include all the stations? To water down the faith is to in essence insult the protestants.
JP II wasn't a heretic, mis-lead, most definately.
Juventutem is the only thing worth while for WYD.
