Exposing The Myth Of The "Catholic Vote"
As promised...
Yeah, there use to be something called The Catholic Vote. Al Smith got it, so did Jack Kennedy. Hell, just about anyone who stood-up to Communism from 1945 to the late 60's knew they could count on Catholics. Not anymore. The Catholic Vote simply no longer exists.
What got me wound up over all this, was as I watched the news coverage of the upcoming Mini-Super Tuesday (specifically the Texas Democratic Presidential Primary) over and over and over, I've been bombarded with the fact that Mexican-Americans are overwhelmingly in the Clinton camp. Yep, the very same militantly pro-abortion Hillary Clinton has a rather large percentage of Latinos in her hip pocket.
Needless to say, I'm hopping mad. For quite some time now, I've always considered the Mexican-Americans as probably the bulwark of Catholicism in America. And here's this in-your-face factiod reminding me that my impression was and is dead wrong. And not just Texas... New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, etc, etc, ad nauseum. Different dance hall, same song. Those with family names such as Rodriguez, Blanco, and Rivera are firm supporters of a baby killer. Shame on them.
But in all fairness, I shouldn't be so hard on those with Spanish surnames. As I watched the very same news coverage, I see many a Democrat strategist, pollster, staffer and so on, with "Catholic" last names such as O'Malley, Golaszewski, Pettinato, Holtzmann . Should I even bring up the Pelosis, the Kennedys, and the Schwarzeneggers? Shame on them all.
How in the hell did we fall so far so fast?
Simple. Just look to the 40+ years of a seemingly never ending cavalcade of Catholic "leaders" who consistently gushed all over and invited the very same pro-abortion politicos to speak at Catholic conferences, Catholic seminars, and Catholic universities. Is it any wonder that many of the Faithful have no faith in what Holy Mother The Church teaches?
And yes, there has been somewhat of a move as of late to correct this past wrong.... but the toothpaste is already out of the tube. We all know that the USCCB has issued some pamphlet on what should be important to Catholics as we vote.
But you know what? I'm still seeing the very same pro-abortion politicos to speak at Catholic conferences, Catholic seminars, and Catholic universities. More sound and fury emminating from the conference rooms of the USCCB?

Not to deny how depressing it is, but God will preserve His Church and Her doctrines. Have faith and hope, VSC, for He is using you to this end.
This topic could be an interesting study.
Originally, the "Catholic Vote" was Democrat due to the obvious Republican antipathy (beginning around 1900 or so) to Catholic social teachings. You know--the old bankers/industrialists, Capital Uber Alles crowd.
That "Catholic vote" began to waver when the Dems went pro-death and the Pubbies capitalized, going (mostly) pro-life, around the late 1960's.
But the USCC never read the signs of the times and stayed with the "social Gospel" (life issues subsumed, please) and the Dems.
For more, see my blog entry on "Progressives"--and the "Liberal Fascism" book which (sadly) does not address the religion component.
