And someone else does the fighting for 'em
This news story really pisses me off. Headline - Jeb Bush's Sons Split on GOP Picks
Oh golly, one's for Giuliani, the other's for Fred Thompson. Life ain't fair, huh? Poor Bush boys. What to do... what to do!?
Hey, I have a novel idea. How 'bout serving your country? After all, didn't their uncle state right after 9/11 that this fight was going to be a "shared sacrifice"? I've posted about this in the past how children of privilege have stepped up to the plate during time of war, such as the Roosevelt sons; Prince Harry; even his grandmother, (at the time) Princess Elizabeth of England.
Hell, if the future Queen of England can join, why can't George's daughters? So allow me to ask yet again... why the hell aren't any of the Bush kids in uniform during this time of "shared sacrifice"?
Allow me to update (for those who didn't know) Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) has a son in the Marine Corps, and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has one son in The Corps and another in the Navy. Obviously, they know what "shared sacrifice" means.
As Patrick has pointed out in the ComBox section, there've been news reports that George P. Bush has, infact, joined the Naval Reserves (Intel) last March. I've found many, many reports of him joining, but nary a one reporting him finishing training and receiving his Officers Commission. And he supposedly joined seven months ago? If anyone has any straight dope in him reveiving his Commission, please pass on.
Here's an insightful, and often hilarious, piece written on Steve Sailer's iSteve blog.
And before anyone goes ballistic, no... I'm not slamming the Reserves. Hell, I respect anyone who signs up, Active, Reserve or National Guard. I just want to be sure that GPB actually went through with it, and actually has been commissioned.
Just being sure.
Last spring George P. Bush said he was joining the Navy Reserve. I haven't heard anything else about it and don't know if he actually did so. Here is the story.

The cynic in me says that USNR is probably the best possible way to get in uniform without actually exposing yourself to danger. But it is something, at least, if he actually followed through.
Your larger point still stands. Our elites much prefer to let other people's kids do the fighting and dying.
The late President Roosevelt may have been a socialist, but all four of his sons did serve, and serve well in time of war! The one who joined the Corps was the XO (as a Major) of Carlson's Raiders.
ReplyDeleteThe vast majority of politicians kids today are...how shall I put this nicely...oh, yea, there're pussies!
Semper Fi
PV2,
ReplyDeleteAs always... subtle as a napalm run. I LOVE IT!!!
And, in the spirit of I'm gonna do some bragging--My daughter told her fiance that we were at war, and if he wanted to marry her--he's best go see the recruiter. he graduates medic training for the ING at Ft. Sam Huston this week, and half of his parent unit is already on orders for Irag. The wedding has been hurried for the week after he gets home.
ReplyDeleteAMEN TO PV2!
Well, Former Altar Boy,
ReplyDeleteShe's working on that he be Catholic thing--but she went to Catholic school so she doesn't attach as much importance to that as I would like.
In fact, it's taken several years to get her to go back to the Church, and she refuses to set foot in the one where she went to school--as do both her sisters.
Pisses me off, it does.
