Mel To Play One Of The Great Saviors Of Christendom?Give the English a break... kill some moslems for awhile this time
Before I go any further, I just want to know... if any of this is true, any chance that one of the direct descendants of King Jan Sobieski, actress Leelee Sobieski, can be in this flick?
That will have a major impact if I see this movie... over and over and over and over and over.
OK, all joking aside, the word coming out of Poland is that the film "Victory" will center on Polish King Jan Sobieski III and the massive ass-whoopin' his vastly outnumbered Catholic armies did on the moslem horde (all half million of 'em) during the Battle of Vienna. And this movie will star in the leading role and possibly be directed by Mel Gibson.
Supposedly, this film is set for release 2007-2008 time frame. Get the specifics here, and here (a Polish entertainment and movie site. Believe me, you'll get the gist of it).
It's about time King Jan Sobieski got the recognition he deserves here in the West. If it wasn't for him (and others), we'd all be bowing to Mecca five times a day.

This movie does appear to be something to look forward to.
And Leelee did such a good job as St. Joan of Arc, it would be good to see her in anything.

I didn't know she was in a movie about St Joan. The only one I saw was with Mila Jovovich.
*Sigh* Mila Jovovich -- Leelee Sobieski -- Either way, I was pushing the near occasion of sin all the way to the edge.
I'll watch it. I'd even go see it in the theater.
Growing up with JPII as the only Pope I'd ever known and this story about King Jan III, I still can't understand the stereotype of "Pollacks" (not my word) being stupid.

Clearly, the Poles ruled well and strongly for hundreds of years. They were also known as philosophers and poets. I don't get it.
I don't think it will be released in 2007-2008 if Gibson is going to be attached. This type of movie would take around 2 yrs. production time; it apparently isn't even written yet and has no talent attached.
Mel Gibson is committed to acting in 2 movies slated for release in 2008; he is exec a third movie.
Leelee Sobieski appears available though - her 3 movies for 2007 have already been completed.

Interesting sidenote to all this, FD is heading for Poland in a few months, for a few months. I'll be sure to pass along any info I can get while over there!
