And I mean "Theater", and I mean "Absurd"
From the same diocese that declared kneeling a mortal sin, we now have this silliness. See if you can spot all the "right words". Here's some of it; (Emphasis and smart-assed comments, mine)

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange will, in solidarity with other faith traditions (ie: other pagans and heretics), host the second annual "Blessing of the Waves" at the iconic Huntington Beach Pier (400 Pacific Coast Highway) (third used condom down from Dr. Groovy's Hookah Emporium and Ye Old Head Shoppe) October 4, 2009, 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. (or whenever you come to). The goal of this Diocesan sponsored prayer service and blessing is to bring together surfers and ocean-minded people, (aka: those with a head fulla sea water) regardless of their faith tradition (see: pagans & heretics), to show spiritual appreciation for the ocean and all that it gives the planet and its population. This gathering demonstrates concern for a cherished environment already compromised by the effects of climate change, toxic emissions, and other pollution. (Ave, Gaia.)

ReplyDeleteGuess who won't be there, that'd be me...
ReplyDeleteThough I could infiltrate and provide a report, I'd much rather do something more constructive with my time, like go to a TLM
I know that in Bari, Italia, they take out the relics of S. Nicholas & bless the water & fishing boats. Greek Orthodox & Eastern Catholic Churchs do some similar blessings. But, this is nothing but a bastardization of that tradition by wrapping it in "New Age " packaging. It is also another attempt to turn St. Francis into a hippie rather that the loyal son of the Catholic Church he really was.
ReplyDeleteFYI: Pope John Paul II proclaimed St. Francis of Assisi the patron of ecology in 1979. But, I don't think this is what he had in mind.
