We don't need to help in the propogation of dissenting doctorines.

I'm married to a Methodist, her congregation are wonderful people, love 'em all.

But when the rubber hits the road, they go their way and I go mine. The closest I come to help their worship is letting the War Department hold Bible study classes in our home. Hey, it's her house too and I hate sleeping on the sofa!Subvethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13523683273450353313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-39739841025108123082008-01-11T22:21:00.000-05:002008-01-11T22:21:00.000-05:00I'm pretty appalled that someone with a high schoo...I'm pretty appalled that someone with a high school degree (or equivalent, mind you) is holding "Communion Services" and Bible studies. I don't know what the canonical requirements are to hold a communion service in a Catholic church, but I know that our deacon does it. Now, he's an ordinary minister of the Eucharist, so as long as he doesn't try to confect it, fine; and he's had to take several years at the seminary to learn more about Scripture than the average bear, but...dude, I've got more education than they're looking for, and I probably have more Bible experience than the average lay Catholic, but I wouldn't feel comfortable leading a Bible study! What if I led someone into error?!Kasiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12252276821520357094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-72922555409168299982008-01-11T16:58:00.000-05:002008-01-11T16:58:00.000-05:00I have to agree, what is a Catholic organization d...I have to agree, what is a Catholic organization doing this for? Facilitate Protestant services...why are we as Catholics worried about this???Karinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17083996428530332209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-14829961197747080512008-01-11T13:34:00.000-05:002008-01-11T13:34:00.000-05:00Patrick,I used the word "heresy" in light that Pro...Patrick,
I used the word "heresy" in light that Protestantism is oficially been designated a heresy by the Church.

I do realize that the "facilitation" as you described is common, but in light that the ad calls for an "ecumenical" approach, I wonder just how administrative the "facilitation" is really going to be.

Bottom line, no Catholic... much less a Catholic organization... should be doing anything at all to further propagate the heresy of Protestantism.

But thanks for your thought provoking comment!Kevin Whitemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07019976622801954677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-85764576257554574512008-01-11T11:00:00.000-05:002008-01-11T11:00:00.000-05:00I think you may be reading too much into this. In...I think you may be reading too much into this. In order to be a heretic, one must first be Catholic. For the most part today's Protestants did not start out as Catholic and then decide to stop believing. They are uninformed and misguided - but they aren't heretics. So we have to treat them with love and compassion, especially in an environment like a hospice.

Notice also that it says "facilitate" Protestant services, not "conduct" them. This could be something as simple as making sure a room is available for the non-Catholics to gather and worship in their own way. This is common in Catholic hospitals and many Catholic colleges. Likewise many Protestant institutions make space available for Catholics to do our things.Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03402788402018206599noreply@blogger.com
