NO!

I assume the missing 6th one is the feast of the Ascension, which has been moved in most dioceses to Sunday.

The so-called reason behind all this moving of Holy Days was to make it easier to practice the faith. IMHO it has made it easier to avoid practicing the faith.

The Church is supposed to be a sign of contradiction to the standards of the world, NOT running after it for approval like Mahony.

As for peace & justice, who better to ask to intercede for peace than Mary, Queen of Peace & Mother of God (the feast Mahony dropped).

As I'm typing this a thought just crossed my mind that there may be a 2nd reason behind dropping it.

Think about it. The 1 Jan feast celebrates Mary as Theotokis (Mother of God). That is a title she was given to her at the Council of Ephesus (431 AD) in order to counter the Nestorian heresy.

& given Mahony's penchent for heresy, why would he want a feast that flies in the face of all he stands for.

Mahony needs to remember another declaration from that Council: it is "unlawful for any man to bring forward, or to write, or to compose a different (ἑτέραν) Faith as a rival to that established by the holy Fathers assembled with the Holy Ghost in Nicæa." (Canon 7)

But, I don't think he will. Like I said before, Mahony is probably going to go down as the latest in a long line of Bihsops like Arius rather than the great engine of change he thinks he is.Alhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07721319432213055605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-33623894583385608532009-03-15T22:47:00.000-05:002009-03-15T22:47:00.000-05:00Forget Mahony, I went to Mass anyway Jan 1 (EF)......Forget Mahony, I went to Mass anyway Jan 1 (EF)...He may have dumped the Obligation, but I'm still going, my Mama deserves some love ;)

< 2 years to go...Can we out here in LA get a real Bishop?
