Since the days of Gen. McClellan, Army officers have been highly discouraged from speaking out against, or showing opposition to, a sitting president. (That was one of the Reasons Douglas "Dugout Doug" McArthur was relieved!) Army personnel can vote however they like, but are not to express any political opinions while in uniform. There is even a offense that Soldiers can be charged with called "Contempt Towards Officials" is they are too vigorous in their criticism of elected federal officials whole in uniform. That's probably the root ot the decision.

On the other hand, the Commanded of the 18th Corps is also the Commander of Fort Bragg, and we who were in the 82 d had a cadence (banned! but not as effectivly as they would've liked):

"I'd rather be a baby in the belly of a whore, than a nasty assed leg in the 18th corps!"ignorant redneckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15718783732896413346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-22566947142499033512009-11-20T11:54:32.805-05:002009-11-20T11:54:32.805-05:00To be honest, I'd rather the media not be ther...To be honest, I'd rather the media not be there. Why should the military have to worry about the salivating, rabid liberal idiots that are there specifically (and only) to look for ANYone that can be tied back to the military, with a comment that is anti-Obama.

Do you really think the liberal media will stick to only asking questions about Sarah Palin to those that show up on Bragg (especially if the person can be associated with the military in some capacity)? I honestly think they'll start asking questions about what happened at Ft. Hood and getting opinions on Obama's reaction (or lack thereof) and his restriction on us for speaking out against it (the whole "let's not jump to conclusions crap).

The vast majority in the military aren't stupid. They know who support them. However, it does make me wonder where the order to at least partially lift the ban came from. It also makes me wonder if it was a perfect, blanket cover your ass technique by the higher ups at Bragg to ensure they're not called on the carpet for something a Private says (of which I don't blame them).Dirtdartwifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04671888274136206862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-62573193463470963232009-11-20T11:00:36.902-05:002009-11-20T11:00:36.902-05:00", saying it would turn into political grands...", saying it would turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama"

Oh no, not that!
