And you and I have both heard the "peace and justice" spiel, which tries to turn Catholic Social Teaching into Marxism. That being said, some American Catholics have been infected with Calvinistic ideas about the deserving and undeserving. Because of these two extremes, solid preaching about many social justice issues is a tricky thing indeed...Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01194200955033642204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-1156503541089972722006-08-25T05:59:00.000-05:002006-08-25T05:59:00.000-05:00I've never known any Catholic, traditional or othe...I've never known any Catholic, traditional or otherwise, who was against almsgiving to the poor.

What I have seen is many Catholics, traditional or otherwise, who was against being forced to give to the lazy and/or lawbreaker under the guise of almsgiving to the poor.Kevin Whitemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07019976622801954677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-1156476936994118472006-08-24T22:35:00.000-05:002006-08-24T22:35:00.000-05:00Here's a different, perhaps better, way of asking,...Here's a different, perhaps better, way of asking, framed in more traditional language:

How often does one hear a hard-hitting sermon on the Corporal Works of Mercy?Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01194200955033642204noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18853193.post-1156476558324416812006-08-24T22:29:00.000-05:002006-08-24T22:29:00.000-05:00I agree with you.
