The forward thinking President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is reporting that Afghan president Hamid Karzai is pardoning a 19-year-old woman who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for being raped by a family member.
The unnamed woman was found guilty under Islamic sharia law of having sexual relations outside of the bonds of marriage.
In the original trial, the judge offered to free the victim if she agreed to marry her relative/rapist, but she refused.
