Raleigh's Catholic Bishop has name surface on Philly Grand Jury report

Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams, a Catholic himself, has submitted a Grand Jury report in regards to the investigation of alleged sexual abuse by clergy and the subsequent cover-up and protection by officials of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

In the District Attorney's none-too-veiled efforts to show examples of the Archdiocese purposefully turning a blind eye to credible evidence, the name of Raleigh's Catholic Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, who is also the former Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, has made its way to the Grand Jury Report.

Bishop Burbidge is not, nor has never been, personally accused of perpetrating a case of sexual abuse.

But my impression is that Bishop Burbidge is weak when it comes to cofronting corruption. I don't think he is a bad man. I don't think he himself has committed any sexual abuse. Nor do I think that he has overtly covered things up. But he is weak when it comes to giving the perverts and liberals the choice of repenting or following Hymenaeus and Alexander in 1st Timothy 1:19-20. I for one will pray for the Bishop. He's not evil, but he has a problem in facing evil down. But maybe I am wrong even though an appointment of a liberal to the community at Wrightsville Beach says otherwise.

Bishop burbidge is a liberal. How else do you think he ever became a bishop in the first place? Not that this has anything to do with the allegations, but his allegiances do not lie with the traditions of the church.

Confiteor.

I hope you are incorrect, but I suspect you are right.

That saddens, but explains much about his tolerance of liberal priests and the continued liberalism that holds sway in the Diocese. I will, however, continue to pray for him. I think we all should do that.

Ioannes -

I share your sadness. But the reality is what it is. I have been gratly discouraged as well by learning of his true colors.
